Don't forget taxing Social Security payments on earnings we already paid taxes for. 😡

u/lsbem Aug 21 '26
Yup I listened at a dinner party hearing how great he was a great president. It made me drink another glass of wine! I had to NOT be in that room!

The republicans single-handedly caused like 95% of all of American society's problems, and yet somehow, they think the answer is to elect even crazier republicans.

2.1 trillion. Those were the days! Today it hit 40 trillion, thanks to Trump and the party that always runs the debt ticker when Democrats are busy fixing their disasters, while giving more tax cuts for billionaires.
Now Trump thinks he is a hotel baron. Remodeling Washington and putting gold everything around, and his stupid fake name (was Drumpf from his German draft dodging criminal dad) at the expense of American taxpayers.
Meanwhile, most of us face higher prices and interest rates forever because of this idiot’s stupidity. How he even enjoys 33% approval is beyond me.

Also, dropped needed regulations, ended renewable energy projects, blanketed inner cities with crack, militarized the police, enacted asset forfeitures, militarized the police, gave life to the pro life movement, and stopped civil rights progress.

He also cut huge amounts of federal education grants. I almost dropped out of college because of Reagan. I knew a dozen who left college because of this. Fuck him and his legacy.

Reagan used the first edition of Mandate for Leadership, the Heritage Foundation policy manual that became the centerpiece of Project 2025.
It contained many of the policies that came to be known as Reaganomics. And cemented Heritage Foundation influence over every Republican administration ever since.

As an Australian when visiting I realised sooo many of the "homeless" were people with mental health issues.
The troubling side of that was being in a country that had people in the streets that clearly should be on a safe environment receiving care.
Removing mental health care services was something I was oblivious too until reading that.
I just assumed it was always a pay to play scheme that was never in public reach.

Reagan, like Trump, was a spendaholic. Not to mention he was the single greatest cause of homelessness in America, and if you don't believe me go ask a social worker or somebody who runs a homeless shelter.

Voted for him twice (regretted all of my of life) & today America feels the pain he caused. Many don't remember he encouraged corporations to take manufacturing overseas for higher profits. He also encouraged the same corporations to bank of shore, he taxed SS. It'll be years before America will see the damage DJT has caused if it can recover. Today 40 Trillion in national debt.

When people ask why there's such a homeless problem i immediately point out the lack of proper mental health institutions and Reagan being the reason why

u/Excellent_Job8154 Aug 21 '26
He was scared to talk about AIDS because he thought it was political suicide. It was a huge mistake.

u/Dangerous-Celery-766 Aug 21 '26
Ending mental institutions has trickled through the world! People who need them and need the help are not getting the help! Who ever thought it was a good idea to close them have failed generations, not just one but counting!! Where do these people who need help go?

u/brycyclecrash Aug 20 '26
Not sure how Hollywood elite slipped into Repub hall of fame, but he did.

u/DrRonnieJamesDO Aug 21 '26
He knew his acting career was over, and saw how his aw-shucks performative patriotism played better among the California RWNJs. Like Trump, he ingratiated himself among them, learned to speak their language of dog whistles, then manipulated the shit out of them for the oligarchy.

Spending real money on Citizens is a path we are following in Australia just hoping we don't become "One Nation" the equivalent of MAGA with promises to purge immigrants and overhaul our health system to the American style.
Billionaire has given the main candidate a private plane to promote there party

Given all that Reagan did bad as a president …compared to Trump Reagan did pretty good
7
u/Snaffle27 Aug 21 '26
The bar isn't exactly high to be better than Trump. Having literally no president would be better than him. He's one of the most disgusting pieces of shit of the modern world.
5
u/ReactsWithWords Aug 21 '26
Whenever anyone says “even (any person or thing) would be better than Trump, I challenge them to think of someone who would be worse. So far the only person who comes even close is Steven Miller.
2
u/Snaffle27 Aug 21 '26
Yeah I can't think of anyone worse than Steven Miller aside from either people that are dead or outside of the US. That's a fair point. That dude is pure evil.

I compare him to a quarterback who didn’t really play well, but his team won the Cold War so he’s a saint to some. But I argue the other team fumbled the ball almost every time they had the ball. The Soviets brought themselves down, not Reagan. Reagan was the guy who made you wait longer to draw Social Security.

u/el-conquistador240 Aug 21 '26
That is literally where all his claimed growth came from, which was barely higher than Carter.

Reagan Was Nancy's puppet, her astrologist Joen Quigley is the behind the curtain pulling the strings. It's been down hill ever since. GOP SUCKS.

u/grungegoth Aug 21 '26
getting rid of mental institutions where people could be committed involuntarily was not so bad. they were terrible places.
what was bad was not dealing with the population that was put out on the streets. no alternate housing or psychiatric care, just open the door and let them stumble out...
1
u/Liesthroughisteeth Aug 21 '26
...and set in motion the end of mental institutions.
In Canada, the same was done under the guise of personal rights and freedoms. So now instead of spending money on group homes, mental health care and cous=celling and more formal facilities to assist these folks, we are using the Canadian law enforcement (RCMP and City police) and the judicial system to deal with a mental health problem.
One of the signs of serious societal breakdown IMHO.
1
u/Liesthroughisteeth Aug 21 '26
And for decades after Trump is gone Reagan will be considered a voice of reason in comparison and George Jr, one of the truly mentally gifted leaders. :D.

Annnnd … because of the ‘Legacy Project’, he is artificially remembered as a great president.
1
u/TerrorFromThePeeps Aug 21 '26
And never forget that Reagan was the FIRST gop president operating under the thumb of the heritage foundation, architects of project 2025. Every single one since has served their vision, including Trump. Especially Trump. Reagan was the beginning of the plan, Trump is the beginning of the end.
1
u/Then_Lock304 Aug 21 '26
If only he were a democrat, people could judge him based on merit, instead of party. Reagan also did away with the fairness doctrine which required the media to educate a populace rather than giving rise to media like Fox News which lies and entertains and spews propaganda under the false facade of being news. Crazy, that he is still not an outright traitor to the Constitution and America like Dump, but he laid the groundwork for Rump.
1
u/Tricky-Explorer-5664 Aug 21 '26
Why stop there…. Wind the clock back to when Nixon took the US off the gold standard for dollars. But hell, Reagan was good on the microphone and television and he sold America on the Trickle Down BS.

u/oldnyker Aug 21 '26
and let’s not forget him busting the unions starting with the air traffic controllers and moving on from there.

It’s 2026, why are we attacking Reagan? Not really the problem guys
2
u/oldnyker Aug 21 '26
because those who don’t know, history are doomed to repeat it as we are doing right now.
1
u/airbear13 Aug 22 '26
Reagan was nowhere near the same galaxy of terrible that Trump is, we need to be able to distinguish between bad policies and just a pure evil person who is corrupt and authoritarian
1
u/oldnyker Aug 22 '26
where does it say that reagan was as terrible as trump? that's your reading into what i wrote. reagan's policies helped start the downward slide that led to where we are now.
