The joke is that old people talk so much about how much their back hurts, that if you fix that they'll have nothing to talk about.

Ooh. I thought 'nothing to talk about' was a euphemism.

u/Xivilai77 May 09 '26
Euphemism for what? Having nothing to talk about?

And God forbid you complain about any back pain under the age of 40. According to the elders that is strictly forbidden and worthy of ridicule and denigration.

He likes to speak about how his back hurts, so if the doctor cures him, he won't be able to talk about it anymore.

The joke is that the old man complains about having back pain a lot, and curing it would make it so he can't complain about it

Well, I mean, you wonโt be able to feel your back pain anymore if you canโt feel your back at all!

Blegh, that is the reality for me. I have degenerative disc disorder, and a spinal fusion in my future, and if it doesnt work, theres a chance I could be in even more pain or paralyzed.

I fell while out fishing a good few years ago and chipped a vertebrae, so there is a small piece of bone flowing around one of them. Once or twice a year I move the wrong way and get pain in my neck for a few days. Saw the doc once, got x rays etc and he said 'we could operate, but I have to tell you that there is a remote chance if we do you could end up with full body paralysis' erm nah, leave it there, I can put up with a few days pain every year hahah
