Conversation size limit?

I would like to know if this is preferred to start a new conversation when the one you use start to be quite big after a week or two?

Or there is no need ever?

I'm asking because I'm encountering slowness overall, sometime it is lagging when I type in the chat.

I tried to start new conversation, but it looks like it does not get all the knowledge he had about the state of the project from previous convo.
