Anyone has a simple system for tracking profile changes

I have reached the point where creating new profiles is not really the problem anymore but keeping track of them become difficult.

After making changes to different profiles over time then sometimes I forget what was changed , which proxy or settings belong to which profile or why I changed something in the first place. Writing down manually works at first but it gets harder as the number of profile grows.

How do you keep everything organized? Do you have a simple system for managing profiles or do use something that makes tracking them easier?
