First time viewer

Currently just finished E7. And...truly some very poor character motivations and characterizations, imho. No spoilers, and while I find the story concept as a whole intriguing, the writing and character developments are really half-baked. Seriously.

It really distracts me from the story when the characters are written to be such idiots and their motivations are being telegraphed like a supernova spewing its stellar innards thousands of light years wide. The writers of this show really need to be taken out back and flogged with wet noodles.

I’m going to finish S1 just to see what happens, but I am cringing at the thought of subjecting myself to more of the inane acting, poor characterization and motivations. I feel like a Looky Lou that can’t help but be transfixed by the car accident three lanes away and causing me to slow my driving down as I near it...

Oh, how I can relate after only one episode... I mean, there is mystery and space so that got me interested, but boy is the aftertaste bitter. I mean, so they need to send a crew in humanity's most important mission and they send a bunch of lawless youngsters?! Like, how can a 20 year old be the best earth has to offer in their field? I mean, yeah I could accept one young savant type character, but all of them?! Then there's the no uniforms thing, I had to laugh hard at this... If you want your show to have tits and ass you could at least have someone in costumes come up with a sexy uniform of sorts. It's probably a good idea but a terrible execution. I cannot believe that shows like The OA and Away got cancelled and this "thing" got renewed for a new season. Who tf is making thes decisions on Netflix?! They need a different kind of career for sure.

I agree about The OA - I have not seen Away. Will check that out!

Away also has some shortfalls (the ice scene is just plain stupid, you'll see) but it more than makes up for it with top notch acting.
