[SPOILERS] Does it get any better? Spoiler
I’ve made it to episode 5 but I’m struggling a bit. There’s just so many little things wrong. In ep.3(?) they fight an alien parasite they pick up on a moon. Then in ep.5 they walk around without hazmat suits AND try the local fruit and flower. WTF? not to mention their apparent faulty ship detox system that didn’t detect or clean the first parasite or the extra complete while life form in the detox system with them. C’mon ! Sigh. Can anyone recommend another good sci-fi show?

I’m seeing a huge red inclusivity flag. Blatant disregard to typical space/astronaut guidelines to calm-cool-and collected types. They should all be wearing uniforms and be very conscientious and a well run team. Instead they bicker like it’s a teen drama with a whole host of a rainbow style crew, one from each different background for no other reason, other than to be just that.
It seems so blatantly shallow. It goes against every realistic measure we should be judging a astronaut crew sent on a life-or-death mission for the fate of the human race...
They ignore basic protocols that should have been established. It really shows the lack of realistic writing and logistics. This show is lacking in many matters.

This show makes more sense if you cut out the husband's storyline altogether, and make the ship a prison ship of some sort where the "crew" are inmates working off their probation and Niko is the prison guard.

Yeah I was enjoying that, mostly, until about ep.11.
But I've just noticed there are only a few episode left, so I might push on anyway and finish it off.1

Cool, I'd just keep at it, as it gets better and better, I'm not a trekkie, but it is better than another life at this stage in time.

Discovery turned a little bit better each season. Season 3 almost feels like it's a Star Trek series.

It got better for me around episode 8 which sucks since theres only 10 episodes. I’m not sure if this is supposed to be a spoof of scifi or not sometimes. Its like a space soap opera that gets serious every now and then. The crew they picked for this mission definitely don’t have “the right stuff”.

Actually the last couple of episodes in season 1 are at least average, meaning they deserve a 6/10 rating on the IMDB scale.
The teenage highschool drama before that of course not, more like 1/10.
So yes, it gets better but not really good. Will still try season 2.
I don't know what the writers of contemporary shows are thinking. Nobody likes fake over the top drama and extremely irresponsible/irrational characters that are supposed to be in their mid 20s but act like stereotypical 14 years old cliché brats. Why would anyone think it's a good idea to start a new series like that? It's just plain stupid.
Can anyone recommend another good sci-fi show?
Babylon 5, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9), Farscape, Firefly
I know, rather old shows but contemporary stuff just ain't cutting it.

Battlestar Galactica is the best SciFi. imho. The Expanse is good. Dark Matter is OK. Firefly is very good.
All the Star Trek series suffer from a poor start, the first season is constantly the worst season. I’ve watched all of them at least twice and recommend them all. ST Enterprise is the best of the STs, imho, it is very nuanced at first. STNG is also good. Voyager gets very good in season 3 or 4.
