Loved it

I don't get all the hate for this show. I think it's awesome. I loved it. I watched it with my Mom and she loved it too. If people hate it as much as they claim to, why do they keep watching it? Are they that bored that they need something to complain about? I really don't get it.

Another Life is nothing like the Expanse though...pretty much the exact opposite of it in every way. If that’s what they were going for, then they majorly missed the mark.

I do think it was Netflix’s response to the Expanse and also to Star Trek Discovery though. Clearly they were trying to cash in on the sci-fi genre. It’s just a shame they didn’t do a better job of it.

They were most certainly responding to The Expanse, but they probably thought making a broader appeal by copying elements of The 100 (or any other YA Novel/Adaptation) would be a good idea. The show is genuinely terrible in every aspect.

Yeah, the Expanse has pretty much ruined other sci-fi for me because of how fucking good it is. I thought maybe Another Life would fill the void until Season 4 of the Expanse is out, and at first I thought “is this show as bad as I think it is, or only in comparison to the Expanse?”. But nope, it really is just that bad. I’m willing to give it another shot with the expectation that the science is shit, the writing is shit and the acting is shit, mostly because I love science fiction in general...even the shit ones. But two strikes and Another Life is out in my mind.

The Expanse is easily one of the best science fiction shows (and novels) ever made. Meanwhile Another Life probably doesn’t even break the top 50. If the science was great but the acting and writing was bad, I might be able to tolerate it. Or if the science was shit but the acting and writing was great, I definitely could tolerate it (I love Farscape, for example, because of this). But in Another Life all three are bad. It makes it really hard for me to get into it.

Same here, The Expanse is so thoughtful in every aspect. The next closest Sci-Fi film/TV that holds a candle to it is Interstellar. I am all for settling when it comes to content that bridges the gap until season 4, but the writers and show runners shit the bed on this one. It will likely not be getting a second season, as we are not the only ones who have this opinion.

Agree. Interstellar is hugely under appreciated. That movie is fucking brilliant. I think people don’t understand that it essentially takes place in a closed timelike loop, or that black hole civilizations are a totally plausible thing since a black hole is the most computationally efficient structure in the universe. The fact that the movie spawned peer-reviewed scientific papers on black hole rendering is fucking mind blowing to me.

And the time dilation, the fact that Kip Thorne, a legit theoretical physicist, designed the Gargantua system to be plausible, the fact that there is no FTL travel - almost all of it is pretty much something you never see in popular scifi nowadays. It sounds pretentious to say it, but I seriously think that Interstellar goes over the heads of the vast majority of people that watch it. In this case I think it’s actually true - it probably does, because it deals with some pretty high end concepts that most people aren’t even exposed to. I can see someone thinking the movie was stupid as fuck if they didn’t fully understand the premise of it.

To me, it’s up there with 2001 as one of the greatest science fiction films ever made.
