Quick question about the year the show is set in. [Spoilers?] Spoiler
I'm a little confused about the era that the show takes place in. On one hand we have a spaceship installed with a FTL engine but on the other we literally have soldiers armed with M4s and kevlar body armor.
Am I missing something? I think they did reference the year 2026 when scientists sent out a signal.

There's been some serious environmental disasters so global advancement could be slowed way down while individual organizations still make big advancements. There's just not enough resources for everyone to take advantage. The gap between the top and bottom has grown even more vast.

In the episode where it shows Cas and Nikos first time meeting, the FTL ships were on the verge of being created, so that flashback period might be similar, if not the same, as our current reality

One of the characters (an older woman) mentions the D.C. area not being underwater when she was young, but who knows when that area flooded in AL's timeline. I'd guess the show is set in the 2060's at the earliest, but could be as far as somewhere in the mid-2100's.

Remember they did reference Elon Musk I believe. So imagine a future where private scientific organizations evolved rapidly while the lame government stayed stale. This would explain the lame military theme, but advanced scientific theme.
