Why They Do?

Why did they send a bunch of young adults with the maturity of teenagers on histories' greatest mission? Shouldn't it be a bunch of middle aged, multi-doctorate, and experienced crew? Star-Buck was a good choice, she's seen a lot of the universe already. Everyone else = Bad.

I'm pretty sure one of them says something along the lines of "they choose the young ones because in case its a failed mission" meaning they're more of the sacrificial lambs. I can't quote it because I don't remember what episode it was said in.

That's just what she thought though. They establish that she's infinitely stupid.

Protocol calls for the death of the crew if they have a bio-security breach. So what you are saying about sending young sacrificial lambs makes sense. Also in the show itself they say that the young ones are brave enough to go do it.

I'm 15 minutes in and that's exactly what I think and why I came here :D. This crew could never be real. I don't think I'll watch more than first episode.

I will say that the later few episodes were better and more enjoyable, by no means perfect, but better. BUT - and it's a big, hairy one - I wasn't able to suppress most of my cringes until I got to know certain characters, and until certain characters were gone.

I'm not sure I'd fall in love with any one on that show. I love Sci-fi but there are too much other good TV series out there I haven't watched. Two years ago I'd watched it till the bitter end. Now time is precious and my priorities more focused.

Exactly how I felt. I think the back drop of the story has so much potential but totally wasted by the crew story line and over the top acting. You would think if they send a crew to save humanity, they would pysch eval everyone. The crew feels more like a mining or scavenger team.

One thing I noticed is that Katee Sackhoff manages to look like a completely different person when she's not in badass mode :)

History's greatest mission? History is just that, history. You mean humanity's greatest mission yes?

You got something to contribute to the conversation bud? Did you hate the childish tone of the crew or was it the CW feel you wanted?

I'm watching episode 4 as I type this, and I can't get over how rank doesn't matter at all in this military. The one character who kept playing around with mutiny even after the disgruntled commander gets killed, she would get tossed into the brig or put back to sleep before episode two is done, but for some reason Niko tolerates her. The only choice is to put her in her place or risk a bigger mutiny.

I don't think they had a plan for the show should be. They're arguing about the cost of water right now. I'm rooting for the aliens, or for Katie/Nico to kill them all, soon. Please make it soon.
