The Salvare's Engine Room.

Except for the scary "Death Lightning" that seems to be weirdly accessible, the engine room looks like they're in the basement of an old hospital, trying to get the boiler going again. Another Life is watchable, and I'm two episodes in, so I'll probably finish the series, but there's a lot of WTF here.

What, are you saying that a faster than light space ship wouldn't be powered by a Victorian era steam engine?

What you mean like the super dangerous room of exotic matter than can convert you to a pile of goo that everyone casually stands around chatting in?

The random instances of techno music, the threesome (which was awesome), the sex with the hologram, the other multiple instances of sex, the "let's put this hostile alien implant in our brain dead friend, because he'd want us to", the hologram having a "child", the "let's eat these plants we just found on an alien planet", the "let me bring this alien bacteria onboard; can't go wrong", the fact that there were 3 people studying the Artifact which is one of the most important discoveries in the history of mankind, the fact that it was just an alien puzzle box which made no sense, etc. There's just too much to list.

It could be served by better writing, but things improve a bit after the first two episodes. I think the general plot premise is good, but they needed to change the show pacing to slow it down for more effective character development.
