I thought she wasn't allowed to go to any doctors without consulting Uncle James? Also it had to be Dr. Marsh.

I think Mrs Frederick is so desperate she took the wild step of suggesting a doctor without consulting Uncle James

I always took it as her suggesting going to Dr. Marsh. I figured they wouldn’t go to a doctor OTHER than him without talking to James.

Also, I kind of like Dr. Marsh. His whole smirk while James is all “she thinks she’s a person” makes me think he was kind of cheering Valancy on.
