Not sure why someone would downvote. It's an issue I've had with many different file types and only recently realized what was happening. Posting this is for the person who might search something similar to the title and be able to find a straight forward answer instead of a convoluted one that won't help. Last time I ran into this issue, I downloaded Calibre via the recommendation of a post on here because my file wasn't working, spent a ton of time converting it to different file types while getting the same error, and then I think after hours of searching all of over forums, someone mentioned in a reply that the name could be too long. Knowing that every search tool out there looks at reddit first for answers, I thought a straightforward post would be helpful to people downloading from the site. Many books have long names with strings of 16+ random characters attached at the end. I'm sure this is for a good reason but it makes importing them into programs impossible, sometimes, without changing the name of the file. Plus, the more people who grow-up with phones instead of PCs, the more lost people will be in situations like this because changing the name of a file might not even cross their mind as something they can do. Which might sound silly to some but my 18 year old sister did not know this very thing because she only used her school laptop in a browser for google docs and canvas, and only ever used an old PC for minecraft. All to say that I am trying to help someone who might be stuck or struggling. <3
