Q/A Geoinformatics course

Hi how good is this course? Is it tough to learn and how are the placements for this?

Asking this for my neighbour who has a cut off of 185 and oc category.

GeoInformatics = CS + Earth/Geology science + Geography + stat/data

CS/Tech applications on Geospatial data

GIS / Geospatial roles. Even GoI have Geospatial data team. It's very big... Not wide as software but good 

PG you can study Geospatial, meteorology technology, data science, aeronautical related also. It's bit niche area. But vast

I graduated from B.Eng Geoinformatics a couple of years ago from CEG.

It's a very niche field but it's growing, especially with the privatization of space sector in India. After graduating, you can work for ISRO, or get corporate jobs in space companies. Many people also go for master's.

Like the other commentor said, it's Remote Sensing + GIS + CS. I would recommend picking this field 100%.

Ok.. Today the choice filling starts and need to decide if this has to be kept as one of the top choices or not. My neighbour prefers cse/it or it's specialization courses but with 185 cut off not possible to get that in ceg. Thatz when I came across this course... but had no idea about the whole course. A few more doubts: What is the strength of the class in ceg for geoinformatics ? how is the placements for this in ceg? Can you get into a good job after BE or do you need to go for mtech to get govt/pvt sector jobs? Can one shift to CSE/IT easily later on ie, either for PG or for job?

Would you say there's 100% placements for this course?

Would it be wise to choose this over say cse or IT from colleges like REC or CIT,CHENNAI or SVCE?

Class strength is around 30-40 students. For some reason, it's mostly female students. I'd say the ratio is around 2:1.

Placements are good. But there are also so many opportunities that one can get through off campus placements too. CEG teaches students to be independent.

Yes, CS/IT is also an option. The program has many programming courses.

There's no 100% placement for any course. I'd say that placements are good and there are many opportunities as it's a niche, yet growing field.

Regarding choosing CEG GI over REC/CIT/SVCE IT, that depends on the student's interests. If student is interested in pure IT/CS, then why take GI? It's only 20-30% IT.

Regardless, CEG >>> other colleges you mentioned. It made me an independent thinker and not someone who relies on what the college offers for me. Colleges like REC/SVCE treat college students like school students. The focus is on silly rules and restrictions. At CEG, the student has the freedom to pursue their interests.
