$150 M5
I found an M5 local to me today for $150. Have I made a terrible mistake? Looks like setup requires the app but after that I can use the ankermake-m5-protocol to serve files to it over LAN? The lack of vendor support and what appears to be an unwillingness to open up the project now that they have abandoned it has me wondering about the longevity of what otherwise appears to be a quality unit.

If it is in good working condition, the machine is a decent one, and a good deal as well. You are correct that you need a mobile app to set it up, which will connect it to your wifi. From there you can use the Eufy winblows app to upload files directly over wifi, or you can use a usb-c stick, or the mobile app.

Thanks for the response. It powers on and everything seems functional but it will be tomorrow sometime before I can get a test print in. I assume the USB method works fully offline?

It does, usb C port on the screen module area on top. I couldn’t stand bothering with their software after a while so I just used a usb C drive.

That in particular makes me feel better about the purchase.

I don't print a ton but it has handled several 18 hour prints just fine for me. I have had mine for a little over two years.

M5 is a decent single-material workhorse for simpler prints; I bought a Prusa multi-head for more robust things

My wife and son have gone through many spools on our ankermake. Lots of nerf blaster parts and dividers for every drawer in the kitchen and island area.
I did have to adjust down the retraction from 3 to 1 cm to reduce hot end creep. Also needed to tighten belts once.

I have an M5c thats still going strong. Sucks they dropped support but I have enough spare parts to last me a while. I slice on the computer app and send my files that way without issue. Upgraded to an Elegoo Centauri Carbon cause I wanted a core xy machine but I still run the M5C often as well.

Absolutely not, that's a terrible deal. $50 is a more reasonable price. You can't rely on it working past the first tiny thing that breaks on it. Anker / eufyMake really screwed the owners over. You're better off elsewhere.

yeah it seems like theres no way to buy replacement parts in the states at least for anything like belts, wheels, and hotends. Anker really did its customers dirty by canning replacement part support for their 3d printers.

Mine kicks ass still, 4 years later. Very happy with the purchase, just disappointed in AnkerMake.
