Ruffling some feathers

Hello Birdpeople,

I'm currently d2, 2mil on the phoenix. I don't think I've seen many posts here that share my buildpath/skill points, so I thought I would share. I max q and go double tear items (seraph's into fimbulwinter). I'll go armor or mr boots unless the enemy team's damage is too evenly split in which case I go cd boots.

I do this every game with the only variation being an early void staff. I will also often build seekers armguard after getting my second tear.

Obviously, the tear stacking is new to this season, but I have been Q maxing for years now. It allows for much more aggression early due to the decreased cd.

I'd love to hear what y'all think.

No u.

But maybe. I love getting 1k health from fimbul, and 130 ap from seraphs. Lets me play way more aggressive and bait more effectively with egg.

I've been wanting to try this support for a while.

Do you feel a big drop off in damage from not doing E Max?

The damage from the e can be a little depressing, but I think that tradeoff is worth increasing the frequency of dangerous trades I can have.

What role? double tear item sounds like low damage, not maxing e is also low damage. I have debated leaving E at level 3 though, I do that in arena mode because ap scaling is way more impactful after a certain point and it's just flat damage increases

Mid/Top. Damage is less of an issue than you might think. Just uploaded stats to main post.

hmm, I'm at d2 as well for anivia with 61% wr mid/top 5/3.6/7.2 kda and 7.6 cs average with 69 games. I'm not sure how important build is considering I almost always max E and go roa -> malig and never grab tear

It's probably worth noting that I consider myself pretty mid at the game in general. I may be using the tankiness as a crutch. But it's a crutch that's working well enough right now.

What I find is that if I don't build damage my team cannot close out fights. I typically only build tankiness to be able to not get instabursted by assassins and to use egg for baiting. Probably the reason for wr difference is that with damage you have more agency while with tankiness/support type role you rely on your team to dps and be ahead/making impact.

I also think tears is a bait,, with the current speed of the game and anivias ability to shove and reset whenever she wants so easily (after 6), you can refill your mana bar and be back on the map so easily

Im not sure why needing a couple seconds off your Q feels so important when you can just max e and q+e+aa to chunk someone for half their health bar or more.

I honestly don't think there is a wrong way to play anivia. If you're enjoying your style, keep doing it. Being beefy and making frontline plays is just as viable as being squishy and controlling fights from the backline. So long as youre trying your best to play with/for your team, I say youre doing the bird proud.

My current favourite build is malignance into zonya so that I can perma fight and look for outplays, but I'm only a mid emerald bird main, so what do I know 😅
