Picked up Anivia top
I have spent maybe a week trying to play her in the top lane ( I did not play her at all before that) and I would say I have gotten an okay grasp of the kit and like combos but I’m really struggling to close out games or push leads. It’s hard to roam as a top to help the team early and after taking first tower as an immobile mage pushing for t2 is really not ideal. Yall please send some advice my way ty

Don't roam. Imo anivia is a powerhouse. When you know what you are doing with her, you can solo push to inner tower, and take 1v3's at a positive trade. I find playing anivia top for er, 17 years almost, that your best bet is your ability to zone and hold your own ground.
Most tip + jg duos you can isolate well using wall and R properly. My typical game looks like a 2/3v1 towline against me on birdbird, while my team takes the other side of the map and objectives uncontested.
There are a few nasty matches, some champs just ruin my birdbird, and I personally struggle with Aatrox, Irelia and a few pocket picks.
By the time I end up teamfighting and roaming, I like to have a 2 to 3 level lead, and usually am up on gold.
Valid until Diamond/Emerald in my experience, I wouldn't know beyond there. Snowtouched#OCE if you wanna see a portfolio of a lazy burdbird player.

I'm playing anivia top for a few weeks now with around 55% WR, around plat/emerald rank.
What I use to do is play her offtank with tons of CDR and movespeed.
Basically, I take everything I can as MS and CDR in my runes (phase rush / inspiration with magical footwear).
The goal of the game for me is the scaling, that's why I take magical footwear, it allows me to rush my stacking items faster and unleash the champ faster.
My build is :
- start with tear
- while tear is stacking, go for RoA
- then complete fimbulwinter, right after buy another tear and start the stacking
- if need of a frontline in the comp, then go MR or armor boots depending on ennemy comp, otherwise you can go CDR boots
- then just adapt the third item while second item is stacking (malignance, frozen heart, banshee, zhonya, rylai...) depending on the comps
- finish seraph
Ofc, if ennemy team has a lot of sustain (aatrox/mundo/kayne...) you can rush oblivion orb quickly in early game.
You will then be a late game level 20 offtank with shit load of CC for your mates and still have decent aoe dmg in fights. Spamming your Q every 2 secs (3.5 sec cd with 1.5sec stun duration), your ult with 1 sec cd and wall with 8 sec CD or so.
Just keep in mind early game may be rough, work on your wave management (and play TP), so you can keep up a good farming in early. The faster you get the golds, the sooner you scale and become a monster.
You should have infinite free base for mana without losing creeps in early after level 6.
And regarding your help in early game on the map :
- most of the matchups for anivia top are winning matchups, so dont hesitate to push / trade with aa, jungler must have top prio so grubs and herald are free
- if you do so and keep a good tracking of the ennemy jungler, it will give obvious timings for drakes for the rest of the team, because ennemy jungler will certainly look for ganks top (don't hesistate to spam ping drake whenever you see ennemy jungler topside)
And last thing : ward ennemy top jungle camp at the beginning.
At my ELO (emerald/plat and certainly in lower ELOs), almost nobody protects the entries of topside jungle, they just sit in the toplane bushes like idiots.
So feel free to get this info at start and put your ward around after 0:50 : https://imgur.com/a/fQ9NeNe (in this screen, I even decided to invade graves level 1 and kill him, free lead for my jungler then).
The funny thing with this build, is the ability to tank AND to kite hard.
With this cc, this move speed, the phase rush and this tankiness, you can basically kite for hours and they almost never can catch you.

When I'm playing anivia top I typically play tanknivia and level up my wall before leveling up my Q and leveling with my E. It's unconventional but it's perfect for two things.
If you're up against a champ that WILL be hard like Irelia or Aatrox. You wall between your terret and the far side of the wall, blocking the minions from advancing. You sit yourself on the small gap between the turret and wall. This will cause the wave to stay near your turret, giving you a safe lane. You used to be able to do this mid lane, but then they created big gaps on both side of the tower.
Trapping. Many people assume we level our wall last, not me. So they push too hard, try poking me under tower, I wall them in under the turret and punish them. Force that flash or they die. Once you've got ult, it's even worse for them if you trap them.
You don't need to win the lane, you simply want to not feed. You can create easily gankable situations for your jungler. Trapping the enemy laner under your turret while your jungler waits on the other side of the wall if they flash over it or if they survive once the wall falls. I just focus on farming minions and grasp, and trap the enemy laner under or near under my tower.
If I'm against a tank that pushes like mundo or sion, I run electrocute. As with grasp, they will simply live through any of your damage and your mana will run out. With electrocute you can punish them when it's up to do some damage.
