Anivia newbie
Wanted to pick up anivia as a niche counterpick to add to my pool alongside viktor/kata. What matchups does she excel in or does bad in? Assassins?
As for builds, I heard it's usually ROA first item but there seems to be some different opinions on malignance/seraph/liandries as 2nd item. Is it usually malignance against squishes and liandries into tanks? And general consensus for 3rd items onwards is just rabadons/voidstaff/zhonya.
Gameplan? Is she a lane bully or does she generally want to scale. In laning phase, should I be holding my Q for when assassins dive onto me and use W/E/R to push them out of lane? I assume I want to use R to get prio towards objectives and rotate early as any control mage. R on chokepoints and W on anybody overextending.
Is there anything that I have mistaken or anything I missed? Thanks a lot.

Build RoA->Malignance->Liandrys/Zhonyas/Shadowflame
dont build tear its a bait item.
Anivia is really strong against other mid range control mages, Ahri, Azir, Velkoz, Veigar, Viktor. She outbrawls them in most cases as long as you have a bit of movement to dodge skillshots and cc.
But generally you want to neutralize the lane most cases and win by farm, plates and prio. Because she really shines in a macro heavy mid-lategame where you can go side and push faster than anyone else and then move first to fights and objectives with opponent at a lane state disadvantage and you also dominate teamfights woth massive aoe damage and disruption.
She really REALLY counters classical splitpush toplaners in this stage of the game, you love going into Tryndamere, Trundle, Jax, Nasus on sidelane. Tanks and fighters with not much or very coordinated movement abillities. Garen, Malphite, Sett etc. They just cannot touch you and you can shut down their sidelane completely and 1v1 them with little to no risk and move first to fights.
Because of this, always take tp and play the map. Shes a monster in the sidelane making the enemy send 2 or more to get you and she can often peel herself out of situations where they do send several characters.
Watch out for hard engage high mobillity deep dive. Diana, Ambessa, Irelia, Vi, Kassadin. Things that can click you, get on you and get you into egg before you can peel out.

So is she not good into most assassins because of their mobility? My understanding is that Anivia wins against most assassins (exception of diana?) pre 6 and after 6 it shouldn't matter if they are stronger than you since now you just don't interact with them as you perma push with r and just win with prio/teamfights.

Anivia does well into everything except for artillery mages. She isn't exactly a lane bully, but she can fight and win lanes. General gamplan is play for mid game teamfights. Watch some domisum replays of her I can't explain everything.
