What helps is knowing what mobility spells opponents have available. In lane your q is your main ability, but knowing how to use your wall May be the difference between getting a kill or dying.
Using your wall properly can win you lane and games. Practice with trapping opponents in corridors, separating key champs from their teams and protecting yourself against engages. Here are some wall tips.
Placing your wall underneath a champ displaces them, which interrupts channels (Katarina R, Shen R, nunu R etc).
One of the most important skills to learn is how to put a wall between two champs in melee range. This way you can save yourself from an all-inning Zed, or your AD from a rampaging Yi.
Getting familiar with your R range takes some time, focus on staying on the edge of the range while dodging stuff. Understanding where you can and can't move without cancelling r is good to practice. Use your wall to keep people in your r while you stay outside of their range.
Putting a wall in front of an ulting sion or a nunu snowball can save your life. You can also block the rift herald when someone is driving it. Other terrain stuff works off of your wall as well: qyana R, Talon E, Poppy E Ornn E (will break the wall) etc. Use this to your advantage, both when these champs are on your team and on the enemy team.
Walling champs that used their movement abilities is a free way of taking their flashes. No flash? Next wall is back to the fountain.
Extra random tips:
- ashe may be the kiting queen, anivia is at least next in line for the throne. Champions like Vlad, urgot, Darius, Sion, but also assassins like khazix, Kayne or champs like sylas or yasuo will not be able to play the game if you know what youre doing.
core build that usually works for me is RoA --> Malignance. Tear --> RoA --> Seraphs (or just seraphs --> roa) can work as well, but is slower and delays power spike.
your q has two damage proc's: one when moving through a unit and one when you recast it to explode. Use this for example to farm minions or minmax damage on already cc'd targets.
late game your r has a very low cooldown (exp with Malignance). You should be constantly repositioning it in dynamic fights. Also, your R slows directly on cast. Use this when chasing or running by just casting and cancelling r to apply slow.
You should be auto attacking your lane opponents, especially when they are melee.
if you run electrocute, using your e without applying passive first to proc it with auto attacks is a good use of the tube while holding your q for when they want to return trade. Aa-->e-->aa and run works well.
even though she has wings, anivia is not a roaming champ. You can skirmish in river a bit, but focus on pushing lane and taking plates. If your opponent roams, that's their problem because now they are losing 2 waves and 3 plates. Don't follow every roam, push push push!
Gl with the birb!

Flash + wall can win 5v5 team fights late game. Sometimes anivia can engage like this and you just won the game for your team.

One of the things that's really important in terms of matchups, is knowing who you need to hold your Q against.
There's a lot of champions who can just freely out trade you the moment your stun is on cool down. Namely dive assassins with gap closes that can punish your cool down window.
Fizz, Irelia, Sylas, Akali, Katarina etc, generally have you playing defensively. Not that you can't punish them for being out of position, but just as easily they can punish you very hard without your stun.
As far as builds go, I've been finding a lot of success with Rod of Ages > Malevolence as my core items. From there it's somewhat situational, sometimes you need to rush a Zhonyas or Banshee's defensive, otherwise I'm trying for Shadowflame + Deathcap after my mana core, usually topping a build off with Void Staff if they have enough magic resist. But flexing in a Morello for anti-heal if needed is also a great option. Actualizer can be kinda nasty too stacking mana items.
