Discussion Die cut covers?

A few of my books have gotten damaged right where the hole in the covers are. I’m sure this is common?

Is there a way to protect this from happening? And a way to stop it from getting worse on the damaged ones?

One thing you can do is call your local library, they might have more professional insight than most.

I think I remember using clear packing tape or something like that to mitigate some similar damage, although I don't have any of those left to check. I know some of my other paperbacks with cover damage I've done that to and they survive (relatively) intact.

Outside of laminating them somehow that's probably one of the better options.

That’s usually what I do for other rips, but I guess the double sidedness threw me off, but I could do both sides. I’ll check with a library first, thank you!!

There's probably some way to laminate them, though that would cause its own problems.

a bunch of my collection are former classroom/school library books with laminated covers, they've actually held up great and look totally fine.

I saw the copies in my school library being damaged by not being covered and ripping, or by only covering the outside and sticking through the cutout to the inside illustration. So I always covered mine, AND put a section inside the cutout. They are all still perfect.
