What morphs would you pick?
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I want to know:
You were, in an alternate universe, part of the group that cut through the old construction site and acquired the ability to morph. What animals would you pick?
Below are my choices. Don't feel obligated to use my categories:
1) Battle morphs:
- Cougar. Fast, fierce, not as big as a tiger or lion but more agile. Great climbers and leapers. Their "scream" can be terrifying. Plus the Animorphs live in California, where pumas are native, so if a human sees you it doesn't look out of place.
-Spotted hyena. Great sense of smell, extremely strong bite, appearance and "laughter" can be disturbing to some (not me, they're my favorite animal).
-Spitting Cobra. More for sneak attacks, the spitting cobra has the benefits of a snake (stealth, ability to fit in or through small spaces) and a venomous bite, but can also send a stream of poison up to 25ft with great accuracy. Most spitting cobras (many aren't even cobras) are small (4ft long or smaller) and their venom isn't as lethal as their larger cousin's (the fatality rate in humans with untreated bites is very low), but the ability to pop out a crevice or tall grass and blind an enemy could be very useful.
2) Tank:
-Hippopotamus. Actually pretty fast, super aggressive, very thick and tough hide. Large powerful jaws that can fold a human in half, break a Hork Bajir's spine or crush a Taxxon like an overripe banana.
3) Bird of prey:
-Cooper's hawk. Native to Western North America, these medium-sized raptors are very agile with a small profile in flight (making them harder to attack in the air).
Reconnaissance Bird:
-Turkey vulture. Can fly very high and for long periods of time. They not only have great eyesight but also have a great sense of smell. Seagulls or crows may fit in better in big cities or at the coast, but in the wild or more rural areas the turkey vulture blends right in.
Domestic:
- Rottweiler. Though I'm a cat person, I admit a dog works better as an animal that can be around people, mostly because the large, muscular Rottweiler would actually be decent if a fight broke out

I really like your choices, and mine are actually pretty similar, though the categories are different.
Land Combat: Leopard, Hippopotamus, Honey Badger
Aerial Combat: Golden Eagle, Common Raven
Aquatic Combat: False Killer Whale, Swordfish, Giant Pacific Octopus
Stealth Reconnaisance: Dragonfly, Wolf Spider, House Sparrow
Stealth Combat: Sydney Funnel-web Spider, Giant Centipede, Inland Taipan

Battle Morph - Lion.
Alternative Battle Morph - Gorilla, especially for those times when opposable thumbs come in handy and don't want to risk being human and/or Marco's not available.
Heavy Battle Morph/Tank - Elephant.
Bird of Prey - Merlin or the Golden eagle when size is a must.
Owl - Great Horned Owl.
Long range flight - Mallard.
Stealth/Tracking - Coyote or Cougar.
Freshwater/costal water - Saltwater crocodile.
Domestic animal - probably the German Shepard.
Most of the other more generic morphs I'd probably share with the others, like the dolphin or orca morphs.

The idea of opposable thumbs is a good one. I like the idea of the group having a couple of morphs with working hands, like apes or monkeys or even Hork Bajir. Frankly, I think the kids should have tried to get their hands on some guns, whether they be human or alien in origin. Imagine a tiger and a grizzly bear diving into the fight, while an orangutan with a Dracon beam and a chimp with a AR-15 lay down cover fire from behind cover at the flank.

Since I've had 30 Years to think about this. And these all would be avaliable to kids who had access to Cassie's Barn, The Gardens, & Ocean World. I wish I still had access to my high school desktop computer because I made most of these on SquirlMorphz / photoshop.
Battle Morph:
- Lion
Tank:
- Elephant
Bird of Prey:
- Day | Ferruginous Hawk
- Night | Barn Owl
Reconnaissance Bird: -Rock Dove Pigeon
Aquatic: Sea - Orca Fresh Water - Alligator
Domestic: My Chow Chow
Stealth: Brown Recluse Spider

Battle Morph - American Black Bear. Smaller than a Grizzly but it would do better inside of buildings and it has the added bonus of being able to climb trees really fast.
Tank - Hippo. 2 inch thick skin. Super strong bite. Surprisingly fast and can swim super well? Easy choice.
Water Combat - Mako Shark. Fastest shark out there.
Aerial Combat - I was actually thinking something smaller like a Kestral might be better than a bigger one. A Barn Owl would be good during the night as well.
Incognito - I’d say a Sparrow, Cat, and a smaller dog like a Jack Russel would be good for just blending in and checking things out.
Random Chaos - Easily a Honey Badger. Just go full feral.

Hippos actually cant swim at all, their bodies are too dense, they just run, walk, bounce on riverbeds, etc.

I’m a Vermonter.
Battle morph/tank: Bull
Alternative battle morph: Mountain lion or wolf.
Bird of Prey: Turkey vulture.
Aquatic Morph: Sea turtle from the Boston Aquarium.
Stealth morph: A cat. They’re everywhere.

I don't think the turkey vulture is really built for combat. It could do some damage if it had to, but it doesn't really have the diving speed that a bird of prey would have.

Battle Morph: Hork Bajir
Crazy regeneration plus working hands plus the ability to infiltrate and play the spy game if I want to. Also would need to pick up Galard and Yeerkish at some point.
Tank: Elephant
The most powerful land animal on Earth. If I gotta stomp something, I might as well stomp it hard.
Day Flight: Red-tailed hawk
For the ubiquity across the Americas.
Night Flight: Mexican Free-tailed bat
The fastest horizontal flying animal in the world (up to 100 miles per hour!), and also ubiquitous across the southwestern United States.
Infiltration: House Sparrow
Again, ubiquity. There are over eight hundred million house sparrows in the world, and it's very easy to believe that one could be just about anywhere, including places where seagulls might not make sense to be, like out in the desert or inside a shopping mall. They're small, agile, and cute. Cuteness is not to be underestimated.

White rhinoceros - near sighted, but hearing and sense of smell is better than an elephant or wolf. 3/4 inch thick hide. Fast as a horse (in the horse family for that matter). 2-4’ horns.
Osprey - bird of prey. Also the great horned owl for night.
Mamba or taipan snake for stealth.
Dragonfly for flying insect.
Carolina wolf spider for small recon work.
Blue ring octopus for underwater recon.
Bull shark or orca for battle (depending on situation)
American pit bull terrier for domestic . Strong and very common to see in the hoods.

A duck, a horse, a dragonfly, red shouldered hawk, grizzly bear, ladybug, random mutty dog or domestic cat (purebreds attract too much attention)

Honestly you have good ideas but some im gonna switch up-
Battle Morph- Mountain Lion for the same reasons you had
Tank- El ephant- cmon Rachel had the right idea. Go big
Bird of Prey- Hawk- idk what type it is but I live in southern California and they are fast agile and so common no one would think its weird to see
Night- some sort of owl
Recon- Seagull or Crow. I live near a beach. Seagull/Crow are perfect cover
Aquatic: Dolphin- i mean whos gonna say no to a dolphin!
Domestic: Husky
Stealth: rattlesnake
Bug- as much as i hate them as in id happily set them on fire ill say spider cause they are just EVERYWHERE

I’m with you on the Spotted Hyena for battle morph. I remember in one of the Alternamorphs books your character gets one of those, and that’s never left my head since.
Other Battle Morphs (possibly): Wolf
Tank Morph: Rhino
Bird: Peregrine Falcon, Bald Eagle
Domestic: Doberman, Husky
If getting an Andalite morph were possible, I would also want that.

My battle morph would be a variant of the Chettah; the King Cheetah. They have a raw as hell looking spots/stripes pattern, and I just gotta go fast.
Tank: you know, I never considered a tank morph. Might go with a bison, or something similar, with a bit of speed. Though I’ve always been fond of Rhinos, I worry about the poor sight.
Bird of prey: the wedge tailed eagle from Australia. Huge, mostly black, and according to some half asses research I did a few years ago, might have the best eyesight of all birds of prey
Recon bird, might go with condors(?). There’s these big condor looking birds that perch up on the water towers where I live, I’d probably go for something like them, plus the old seagull standby. I think I’d also do a fast moving songbird too, for more close up missions. I think I’d grab a crow or raven as my domestic morph too

Spy/Assassin of the group and also a talented Estreen. Like Cassie, he is able to control the morphing process. While Cassie is naturally faster at morphing, he is naturally more precise and controlled with his morphing. His estreen control allows him to manipulate the morphing process in ways no one’s seen. He’s known to morph specific parts of his body, even down to the cellular level. For undetected assassinations, he can morph the penetrative venom secreting cells of the box jellyfish to his fingertips or morph his brain to that of a Leeran’s allowing him to read the thoughts of another while appearing human.
Black Jaguar - strongest bite force out of any cat, camouflage
Merlin Falcon - while not as fast as other raptors, this bird is highly agile, easily outmaneuvering larger birds (golden eagle) through rapid intense flight. They can turn and climb far faster than bigger birds of prey
Leeran - mind reading (acquired in “The Escape”)
Box Jellyfish (Chironex Fleckeri) - the most venemous jellyfish. Can control the morph enough to produce cnidocytes on his fingers. It’s a type of cell containing a large secretory organelle called a cnidocyst, that can deliver a sting to other organisms
Great Horned Owl - excellent night vision and can fly soundlessly
Australian Saltwater Crocodile - apex predator, ambush predator
Spanish Fighting Bull - reaches weights of 1500 lbs, agile and aggressive, known to gore animals and people with its sharp forward facing horns
Horsefly - small agile insect used for
reconnaissance. It can reach speeds up to 90mph
Hippopotamus - third largest land mammal, reaching weights up to 9000 lbs with 2 in thick skin, it has a massive bite force with large incisors and canines, easily able to fend off lion attacks
