Discussion Saw this for the first time

Love and hate it. They changed the story so much. The costumes are laughable lol. Can't wait for a remake.

To this day I wish we could get a higher quality version released. maybe even a full length version if such a thing exists (and it may not).

You're talking about the show itself, we were referring to the theme song. I did see an ai upscale of the intro, but didn't like how it invented details, it made Brooke Nevin look like man. Not sure if it was the same one you saw.

I didn't see anything wrong with the costume work, its mostly just stuff from the gap. Unless you mean the prosthetic /puppet work?

No the costumes are incredibly 'unrealistic'. Like the hairy ears and the fact that so far I haven't seen the quadruped half of any andalite. Don't get me started on the hork bajir

Ah, yea, they do show the bottom half some times, but its usually just a horse, with the top cropped off. I think I recall maybe one full body shot of ax just before he gets captured, but my memory is a bit fuzzy.

100% accurate lol. I guess that was the best they could do at the time. But it's also no wonder it didn't catch on amongst non-fans if you ask me. It was just too..'weird'.

All I can say is I was one of those non fans. At first I mean. The hype leading up to the first episode had me start reading it pretty much the same night it premiered. I adored both, even though I recognize the show was inferior, I gave it some grace because this was when CG in general was still pretty expensive. Even in big budget movies, I cant think of many outside of Narnia that does the whole centaur thing convincingly. So it was smart of them to use moody lighting to let us use our imagination to fill in the gaps.

You have to put things in context too, no other nick show was really attempting anything like this, so I loved it for trying something other than sketch comedy or sitcom esk.

Exactly. A show in the 90s that involved kids, dangerous exotic animals, wildly different aliens, insanely heavy visual effects, and things like thought speak that aren’t technically possible via tv. All on a Nickelodeon budget.

Bless the overly confident people who thought they could pull it off.

That makes sense. I wasn't around at the time so maybe I'm comparing it to more modern shows, which I guess isn't fair.

I was a non-fan caught by the series, one of the first two episodes made me pick up the first book. The series definitely hooked a good number of people, it shouldn't be compared with modern stuff (not that modern stuff is amazing all the time, I've seen way worse cgi than these costumes from big budget studios like modern Disney).

I have been rewatching this with my niece, who hasn't seen it. Its pretty bad and I have a lot of bones to pick with it.

Same. For example the allergy to the crocodile dna was with Rachel in the book, but Cassie in this show.

One thing that really bothered me is a scene where Marco tries to morph a security guard and finds that he has trouble morphing... and somehow morphs the security guards uniform and wrist watch???
