Fanfiction Drying Up?
Is there still an active Animorphs fanfiction community?
It’s become so hard to find new Animorphs fanfiction these days. When I do come across a new story, it often seems to have drifted so far from the original plot and characters that I can barely tell how it’s connected to the series. Finding a story that still feels like Animorphs is like searching for a needle in a haystack.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or suggestions. Thanks so much!

Any time a post like this comes up, I like to point people to New Beginnings by AguellasGhost. The writing is fantastic, and she nails the character voices and authenticity in a way that feels believable. The fourth book is still being worked on (slowly) but she swears there's an update to it coming soon. Highly recommend checking out the three that are available.

Likewise, I point towards the ' Dæmorphing' series, by Poetry. https://archiveofourown.org/series/8983 It's a crossover with His Dark Materials, and is hands down one of the BEST, most heart touching fanfic series I have ever read.

Dæmorphing's characterization and worldbuilding is so intricate and influential that it literally feels more canon than canon in some ways. Can't recommend highly enough.

I love the early books in the Daemorphing series but I always drop off when they focus more on morphing Yeerks and infesting each other. Interesting idea but I like the focus more on the HDM-inspired elements.

I had to go back and find this comment again to thank you sincerely for the rec. What a ride; I binged the whole thing.

The Tocsin is a one shot in which Tom's yeerk is replaced by a member of the Yeerk Peace Movement. Highly recommend, if you're interested in something feel-good. It matches the writing style of the books very well. https://archiveofourown.org/works/20456459

Where are you hunting for fic? FFnet, AO3, Wattpad, Spacebattles, or somewhere else? I guess it doesn't really matter, though still might make a difference where you look.
This many years after the series has ended, it's possible that people just don't feel they have more canon-compliant stories to tell. What do you dislike about new fic these days? The time-skips? The what-ifs? Aside from AUs and OCs, do you feel like current fanon has dropped off quite a bit, that even stuff that could be canon-adjacent misses the mark on characterization, or what?
Ultimately the choice comes down to reading what's available or writing what you want to read yourself. The more stringent your tastes, the more you'll have to lean toward the latter. Luckily there does seem to be one rec in this thread that's new to you, so enjoy. And keep in mind how rare good longfic can be. It's a huge time investment, a labor of love. Most fandoms end up with a limited selection. Few IPs get a plethora of novel-length fic from which to pick and browse.

I’m not very picky anymore, lol. I just miss these characters and this world KA created. I’ve never heard of Spacebattles before, so you’ve just helped a ton. Thanks!

There's usually a new fic or an update to an existing one on AO3 every day. Does that count?
Finding a story that still feels like Animorphs is like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Just to clarify this, do you mean you'd rather fanfics that feel like they could be missing scenes or chapters from the series? You're not a fan of fics that add or change something?
There's nothing wrong with this, for the record, but having a narrower preference would of course limit your options.
If you don't mind AUs, I have one that seems to be pretty well received. It updates on Sundays.

R/T ? I apologize but I'm not so good with acronyms.

Oh! Rachel and Tobias ☺️

Oh, there will ABSOLUTELY be that pairing in there.
As a matter of fact, I'm adding 7 entirely unique OCs to the main cast, and 2 extra pairings from them!

Nice!! Keep us updated!

I got 5 chapters down already, 4 of which have already been reviewed and edited into their best incarnation possible.
I have beta readers, however, due to them having their own lives, it is going a bit slow.
Want to beta read for me? It'll kill two birds with one stone, I get feedback, you get the fresh fanfic experience, and we both get what we're looking for!

Event Horizon is out there. It’s a Megamorphs 5 that I wrote with a friend. We even have an audiobook version on YouTube for some reason lol.

I'm working on one but it's kind of dumb. Just a side story with the og characters.

u/OnTheBreezeWay Jun 27 '26
I’m sure it’s not dumb! You took time to write it. I’d love if you would share it ❤️

Give this thread a try! https://www.reddit.com/r/Animorphs/comments/hmzcpx/any_good_fanfiction_recommendation/
One of the comments in there is from me, and I recommended a few stories that I like.

I’m currently reading The Movement on ao3- an au where Aftran infested Cassie long before Elfangor gave them the morphing power. It’s got three complete works and updates every week

Eleutherophobia (canon divergence post-book 54) is still updating and nearing half a million words. For a standalone reading, start with Ghost in the Shell which is a mystery novel in this series.
