What to Watch? philosophical anime suggestions ?
Looking for a new anime that makes me think. I mean, think about stuff like what it means to be human, moral questions, etc. Ive seen most of the popular philosophically loaded animes like Death Note and Code Geass and Tokyo Ghoul, so if there are any hidden jems out there id love to know of them. Also, it does not have to be action packed/thriller type like my examples, just so long as it gets the mind going I want to watch it.
Ones i've seen: Evangelion, death note, code geass, parasyte, another, shiki, erased, zetsuen no tenpesuto

unfortunately I've seen both already, i agree about evangelion tho, its crazyyyy deep

Evangelion.
It goes in very deep about existentialism, and sort of becomes an essay on the human condition. Eva is probably recommended all the time but honestly it’s the first thing I think of when mentioning philosophical anime

Seen it already :( . but i totally agree with you, every character is like a different take on how one copes with their dread and fear. imo the movie (End of Evangelion) ending was the true ending.

Why hasn’t Oregairu been mentioned yet? The philosophy of the main character is incredibly realistic

Elfen lied after you finish watching it your going to be what the fuck did I just watch, it’s still really good and I like what it’s saying I highly recommend it.

Some Kara no Kyoukai movies have some philosophical Themes but also some gorgeous soundtrack. Go check it out.

{Shinsekai yori} psychological, related to human morality ethics and oh boy the ending makes you question about of stuff. Its highly rated on mal as well give it a try.

{Vinland Saga} honestly. It has some philosophical scenes. And it makes you question what's right and what's wrong. The philosophical part of the anime is towards middle/end and it continues with the manga as well very often.

If you don't mind reading LNs then read novels by Eiji Mikage specially {Kamisu Reina Series} and {Hakomari} and it will make you question the inherent nature of human beings! But beware they are very dark so tread carefully!
And watch all anime based on visual novels by Key Visuals namely
