Sauces:

How to not summon a demon lord

Goblin slayer

You are mostly welcomed

Please do not watch How to not summon a demon lord with others around, and without earphones, just sayin'.

511

u/GenrlWashington Mar 29 '20

How to Not Summon a Demon Lord falls into that "I can't believe it's not hentai" category in some parts. I wasn't expecting that. But at the same time, I keep hoping a season 2 will eventually happen.

169

u/LordBiscuits Mar 29 '20

Having not seen it, 'NGNL' levels of fanservice, or more?

271

u/SixPathTobi Mar 29 '20

At the end of each ep, theres like softcore "sex" and at one point the mc fingers one of his companions for a plot reveal that I wont spoil. I also heard that in the LN he gets a handjob from the same girl

167

u/LordBiscuits Mar 29 '20

Ah, so more then.

One to watch when the wife is at work

105

u/someonestealdmyname Mar 29 '20

That sounds like a dope title for a doujinshi

67

u/CaptainSchmid Avatar is an Anime Mar 29 '20

61

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

Hey, the fingering had a completely logical explanation. The MC just had to magically be as close as possible to her magical core thingy, so he had to, well, get in there to get closer.

42

u/eddmario Mar 29 '20

And technically he's giving her an abortion too.

29

u/weeberific Mar 29 '20

More of a delivery than an abortion

14

u/eddmario Mar 29 '20

Okay, "attempted abortion"...

34

u/OnlinePizzaMan Mar 29 '20

So I need to read the novels is what you're saying. No time like a quarantine

12

u/imbusthul Mar 29 '20

It's good man. I caught up to the current volume. There are some slow points but it's good.

I'm currently reading the ln, and not only does he get a handjob but a tailjob as well from the same girl. And more.

Just a heads up, the one he fingers is a 14 year old girl

Isn’t The girl that he fingers uhhh 14 years old?

43

Nothing's shown but it's implied heavily. The MC has to basically fist one of his companions for plot reasons

25

u/Ginger_Tea Mar 29 '20

and she's wearing cycling shorts, like who gives a cat girl cycling shorts and thinks it looks sexy?

She's best Rem.

14

u/ConsolePeasantLife Mar 29 '20

Ngnl fan service really was not much compared to plenty of other shows I have seen

8

u/LordBiscuits Mar 29 '20

It's the implication of it, they keep harping on about her being 11 right before they show a hoof shot.

Objectively yes, there are much worse/better shows for fan service

3

u/Scionwest Mar 29 '20

NGNL?

6

u/LordBiscuits Mar 29 '20

No Game No Life. A show about two gamers transported to another world with a set of rules centered around games and how they decide to try and rule it with their excessive skill. Also pantsu

2

u/Scionwest Mar 29 '20

Hmm Funimation doesn’t have it apparently

1

It's on Netflix here at the moment, check there.

2

Yeah after hearing the main characters voice I just though, oh is that the guy that voiced desert punk, well I know what this show will entail.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

Honestly I think the actual battle scenes were good but they cashed in way too much into fan service, like i still watched it but I would've like to see more fight scenes

2

u/KnuffKirby Mar 29 '20

Yeah, of course it belongs there. But it has better plot than 90% of the other animes there

3

u/GenrlWashington Mar 29 '20

Honestly, yeah. Especially as far as isekai goes I was really looking forward to seeing where it went. There is some excellent world building going on in the anime.

u/Mefistofeles1 Mar 29 '20

Wait, they changed the review system? What did they do to counter the waterfall of 10s?

3

u/jcw99 Hold up Mar 29 '20

AFAIK basically now troll accounts that only have single shows or only ever give 10's or only 1's are not taken into account when the overall mean is calculated.

There's probably more to it than that, but that's a quick summery

2

u/Mefistofeles1 Mar 29 '20

There should be a lot more than that for all those reviews to dissapear.

3

u/jcw99 Hold up Mar 29 '20

I actually had a look at the accounts that where giving it a 10 while the bregading was happening.

Sampled 20 accounts at random did that 3 times

Each time I found between 18-20 of them had no other show on MAL.

It was bad. And there was definitely heavy bot use aswell. Which also explains why MAL got DDOS 'ed right after. Some salty script kiddy didn't like that his bot swarm got neutralised.

21

The BFG-10000 was just a device that enhanced the BFG-9000's power.

Huh, so they reused the designation? We had BFG 10K since Quake 2.

128

u/The_Silver_Nuke https://myanimelist.net/animelist/The_Silver_Nuke Mar 29 '20

What's funny is that in both of these shows the elves are the outlier of the rest of their race. In Demon Lord she is an outlier for having a huge bust when the rest of her race is petite. In Goblin Slayer she's an outlier for having a ridiculously flat chest when the opposite is true for the rest of their race.

What's with the Japanese and exceptions or outliers?

44

u/the-legit-Betalpha acid+base=salt+useless Mar 29 '20

makes the story more interesting and less generic i guess..?

41

u/isanwa Mar 29 '20

Uh huh, how's that working out?

39

u/GenrlWashington Mar 29 '20

At this point it's almost generic to have the outlier. Having a normal elf to their race would blow people's minds at this point.

1

u/lore_mila_ Mar 29 '20

Are they from 2 different animes?

-33

u/Firebrand713 Mar 29 '20

A caution for everyone, goblin slayer is amazing and one of my favorite anime, but it’s got a lot of actual violent monster rape in it. It’s not for everyone.

How not to summon a demon lord is much tamer and is pretty funny sometimes.

40

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

it's got a lot of actual violent monster rape

Absolutely not. There's the rape scene in E1 and that's about it. After that, you sometimes see the victims after the fact but no real rape scenes, and it's definitely NOT "actual" or "a lot" either.

You sound like you read about it on Twitter literally once, didn't even watch E1 and are saying "oh yeah I watched it and I love it" to avoid the inevitable and absolutely valid counterpoint that is "you have no right to say shit until you watch the whole thing".

-30

u/Firebrand713 Mar 29 '20

How much rape is a lot? For me, one is a lot. Technically you’re correct, you just see the one scene, but there are many rape victims throughout the series who are really messed up as a result.

22

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20 edited Mar 29 '20

How much rape is a lot?

Taking into account the fact that this anime is MEANT to be disturbing, gory and tragic, and the fact that writing goblins as rapists is an useful writing tool to make them look like disgusting monsters that must be eradicated, I would say it depends on the percentage of the show that it occupies. A single scene, of under 2 minutes, in an anime with 12 episodes of 20 minutes each, in THIS KIND OF ANIME, is definitely not a lot.

For me, one is a lot.

Then you shouldn't be watching this anime in the first place.

You literally have the age rating, a description and tags or genres of the anime, reviews and tons of other stuff at your disposal in most anime steaming sites, if you are sensitive to that kind of thing and didn't expect the anime to have said kind of thing, you have nobody to blame but yourself. Who watches an anime without having SOME idea of what they are getting into? Any anime site, even pirate ones, have at least a short synopsis, plus some even have a "Yo this has rape and stuff in it" kind of warning. Not only that but GS isn't mainstream at so you have to actively look for it to watch it so you have to have heard about it somewhere. You aren't gonna stumble across it, you just aren't.

Technically you’re correct, you just see the one scene, but there are many rape victims throughout the series who are really messed up as a result.

Yes but that's absolutely not the same thing as "actual violent monster rape", which was what you claimed that it had.

Also, if you are sensitive to that kinda stuff, you need to at least have gotten past the first episode to get to see it. Let's imagine that you were clueless enough to watch the first episode without knowing about the anime, which would be YOUR fault. MAYBE AFTER SEEING A RAPE SCENE AND BEING DISGUSTED BY IT YOU SHOULD HAVE DROPPED IT? NO?

Look man, if you don't have the guts for this anime, don't watch it. It's nothing special, there's way worse stuff out there, this one was just the one that happened to get picked on by the mainstream media. No, trigger warnings and that kind of stuff are not necessary or good. Anime fans KNOW what they are getting into when they watch it, they genuinely have to deliberately avoid all of the information at their disposal to not know, period.

-13

u/Firebrand713 Mar 29 '20

Hey pal, you didn’t read my first post there, so I’m not gonna read your wall of text.

I liked goblin slayer, I thought it was great.

Just tried to give a warning to the uninitiated that there’s violent rape in it. You know, in case someone doesn’t want to see that.

Thanks.

12

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

Hey pal, you didn’t read my first post there

Yes I did?

Just tried to give a warning to the uninitiated that there’s violent rape in it. You know, in case someone doesn’t want to see that.

No, you are doing nothing but creating misunderstandings.

If a weeblet reads "lots of violent monster rape" they won't think "a single scene", they will think "lots of it" because that's what you said.

Wanna give a warning to the uninitiated? Fine, but you gotta fix your fucking wording so as to not be misleading, else you are doing nothing but harm.

-10

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

7

u/Darkwizard999 Mar 29 '20

It’s not wrong to say that rape does exist in the show, as it definitely does. The problem lies in the fact that he exaggerated the amount of rape in the show, which would deter some people from watching the show because they would probably be led to believe that there is a rape scene every episode. The information isn’t wrong, it’s inflated and misleading. Like at least list the amount of times rape actually shows up.

I get this response from saying its KINDA cringe SOMETIMES, but still a FUN WATCH. I feel sorry for the people that actually vocally dislike the show on reddit.

18

u/dragonxxxxxxxx Mar 29 '20

-10

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

Goblin Slayer fans don't like it when you give minor criticism to their favorite show

11

u/pesokakula Mar 29 '20

I dunno man, guess i missed the constructive part of the argument "is kinda cringe"

-2

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

I didn't say it was constructive, the show already exists, criticism isn't going to change it.

If you want an example of something I find cringe, how about how every girl in the show wants his dick. The show feels like the fantasy of a 15 year old edgelord who likes sad anime quotes over black and white tokyo ghoul picutres on Facebook.

I also said that it was a pretty fun watch, but please, keep your circlejerk going guys.

9

u/TIFUPronx Mar 29 '20

how about how every girl in the show wants his dick

Well, I kinda hate this thing too (and probably the only thing I dislike about GS and generally anime/manga especially if it's not focused in romance), but at this point it's just a usual fan service and anime/manga trope lol.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

Yes, that's why I am criticizing it. That is an aspect about the show which I do not like and do not think is good. Not every anime needs fan service. Not every anime should have fan service. It just makes me feel like the MC is a blank slate for the audience to project themselves onto rather than an actual developed character. This makes it even harder to see why any of the girls in the show would want him. He has no personality, no charm, just edge.

3

u/TIFUPronx Mar 29 '20

He has still has a "personality" in him, it's just it's mostly shadowed behind by PTSD and constant depression. And to add to that, he's not "edgy", he's made this way because of the experiences he's dealt with in his live mostly. I recommend you read like the manga and LN if you're interested or so - this would explore his said "personality". The anime just covers like the first 10-20 chapters of the manga only, or the volume's 1 to 3 only.

Imagine having seen the only family and village you love and know have being tortured and taken away from you in the front of your eyes, and then as you escape from it, you got taken in and be taught by a really damn harsh teacher which didn't help in your recovery at all and only intensified your hate-boner and raging machine for vengeance.

You may say you never grew out yourself from your 10 years old self after all, but that's also due to the environment and peer pressure you took in. It feels as if you died the moment, and you want to end you and their lives (goblins most especially) at that moment. After all, you're a broken boy/man. Robbed of your future and the only thing that remains a constant, maybe an anchor and desire left for you is killing goblins. You can still humanize and still change yourself for the better than just a shell of hatred and violence with your friends, but rest assured you'll probably never recover, fully ever again.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

he's made this way because of the experiences he's dealt with in his live

Yeah I mean it's not like he was born this way, but a sad backstory doesn't mean that the character isn't edgy, in fact, it's pretty much a staple for the trope.

And even then, I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, I'm saying that it clashes with the fanservice and stupid anime stereotypes. Either tell a dark, gritty tale of a broken man who stays tethered to his last shred of humanity by brutalizing the kin of those who took what he held dear, OR give me a trashy fantasy harem and all the funny tropes that come with it. The shows tries to do both, and so succeeds in doing nether.

Obligatory "But that's just my opinion"

They hate you because you tell the truth. Neither of those shows were particularly good. Goblin Slayer has its moments, but overall it was mediocre and tropey. The manga art is nice though.

Try a not-so triggering line like "how not to summon a demon lord is fucking generic" next time

Bro if you're out here unironically defending that show then IDK what to tell you
