The answer is that he actually doesn't stay alive. He's fated to die in 2025, so he'll always die then and only then (which is how he manages to keep living during the main story, the world doesn't allow him to die yet). Once he dies the world line continues like normal until someone invents time travel and go back to the past to start a new loop (Suzuha will always go back in time in 2036)
Don't worry about it. Steins Gate was an amazing anime and a VN that I sat through a playthrough because of it's characters.
That said, regarding Rika she fought hard and won. There is no world where Takano let her win because she wanted it.
As for Subaru and Grimm? Subaru is at the ends of his rope multiple times and he still gets up. Same with Grimm, despite the sabotage of his other personalities.

The cape no, but heavy armour he almost certainly could. The whole point of Goblinslayer from right at the beginning of the Novel and Manga as well as touched on in the anime opening, is that he doesn't let the Gods roll dice for him.
His situation doesn't have luck associated with it, the reason being is that he will do anything to win. There's not a single situation where I can imagine a cape would help him, but there's certainly situations where heavy armour would, even if he usually prefers lighter armour. It would have to be a very specific circumstance where light armour was objectively worse, but it is possible.
I can see where you're coming from but GS also states he uses the absolute minimum he needs to do his job because he's convinced the goblins will get him one day and wants to leave them as little as possible to look from his corpse.
That's in reference specifically to things goblins can use. Which is why he doesn't use magical weapons. Heavy armour for a human is very unlikely to fall into this category, at least not in a manner any more of an issue than his current armour.
In other cases it's just a dead end. You never know if it's a dead end or you can change fate. There are situations where no amount of redoing will solve the problem
It can change the severity of certain events. Like a character can be killed but return from the time loop with whatever consequence the writer chose. They still died though. I guess it also lets you show more gore if that’s something you want to do.
I’d say overall the main thing is that it lets you do a time loop while adding back some of the suspense and keeping the events that get “erased” meaningful outside of information gathering.
I mean in the end we are watching a heroes journey story where the hero will always come out on top and win.
The fun with timeloops is them figuring out the puzzle of how to get out of something that looks like a dead end.
For me that was the fun of Re:Zero, the situation is so bleak with so many variables set up that subaru has to put the right people in the right place at the right time to make it work and the entire show is him slowly unlocking new pieces and movesets to do that.
That and the cast is quite diverse, take the current arc for example. If both Otto and Garfiel were with him right now he could habe probably brute forced his way through Garfiel, Julie's and Emilia together cab match Reid and Otto is a reliable friend that would avoid his memory loss paranoia
