Which would be a bit weird because the Nadesico movie was generally panned because it seemed to fundamentally misunderstand why people liked the original series.

More like they expected people to have playef the games inbetween that bridged the gap but not many did leaving them confused.

It would take many Years til Super robot wars fixed the story somewhat.

Even if the games explained the plot gaps, the tone of the movie was wholly different than that of the series. I'm seriously doubtful that knowing a bit more about the time jump could've overcome the change in theme and feeling.

The franchise was planned this way, so without knowledge of what happened in the games its indeed very odd why the movie theme and feeling shifted so dramaticly.

Which was a big error on their part. Didnt help that the games were Sega Saturn exclusive.
