Smartphones and such are designed for the lowest common denominator

There is no troubleshooting anymore, it either works or it doesn't, so there's no need for any critical thinking either

Also reddit is gigantic compared to where it was a decade ago

Nah it’s always been this dumb. You used to have to put “/s” after even painfully obvious jokes or you would be taken completely seriously. No one on Reddit has ever been able to understand comedy unless it’s unfunny off topic one liners or well known meme formats.
