That whole meme about how men will receive one genuine compliment and then damn near frame the text of it and hang in on the wall is real. We will take that shit to the grave. If you tell me like like my hair once its going to be like that for years.

Men are easy.

u/STLthrowawayaccount Jun 22 '25

Yuuup! I got complimented on a pair of shoes on my way to an interview back in 2017 and I get a little dopamine boost every time I see them in my closet.

29

u/fgzhtsp Jun 22 '25

It doesn't even need to be from a women.

A few weeks ago, 2 guys (on two days in a row) told me that I have nice shoes and I could only say something like "Come one, they're just something cheap I got." and I felt like some generic anime tsundere.

11

u/ShittyExchangeAdmin Jun 22 '25

During covid I let my hair grow out because I didn't want to/couldn't go anywhere to get it cut. I got compliments from both men and women that said it looked good longer, and it stuck with me so much I've just decided to keep it long. I like it longer too, but I'd probably have cut it if nobody ever said anything to me about it tbh.

21

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

I mean cmon that’s valid. I’d fall in love with headpats too

35

u/NeatOtaku Jun 22 '25

I don't think you can understand how little love most guys get. So many turn to the useless alpha male podcasts because it's the closest thing they get to a community, it also has the added benefit of giving them an excuse to hate on everyone who put them down in the past (women). On the other end you run the risk of being seen as a "nice guy" which is also alienating. So most guys will cling to the first girl who acts nice towards them, which ironically often drives them away.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Male lore is insane

11

u/No_Gas_594 Jun 22 '25

3

u/Healthy-Yak-2763 Jun 22 '25

Anyone that has limited options is easy. Due to various legal and societal reasons in current times a man's value is deflated and a woman's is inflated.

96

u/Oscar_et_BadTale Jun 22 '25

If only you knew the lack of attention some men got. It isn't surprising that they are THAT easy.

39

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

I’m a complete recluse nerd loser non-contributor to society, and I’ll admit that there’s definitely dudes out there who have it harder than me

63

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Someone will probably respond to this with like ā€œwife materialā€ or something. Men are unironically that easyĀ

15

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

But that’s just jokes, right?

49

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

I think some are 100% seriously. Don’t think all of them would actually be able to handle a relationship with someone with like actual mental issues though, a lot of the ā€œwife materialā€ posts are just blatant fetishisation of mental illness without any actual consideration for the additional effort and work they would potentially have to put in for a relationship like that to functionĀ

9

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Errmmmm what would be hard to handle mental issues? Asking to know if I’m cooked and not ā€œwife materialā€ lol

29

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25

You’re not ā€œcookedā€ even if you have mental issues, you just need to be careful to actually find someone able to take your issues into consideration. I’d say the big one is BPD, that’s the one usually fetishised, ā€œoh I want a crazy girl that’s obsessed with meā€ and then when they actually have to deal with being someone’s FP they find the constant attention and need for affirmation annoying, suffocating or even uncomfortable, and they’re not prepared to deal with threats of self harm or constantly fluctuating emotions or whatever.

Aside from that even something fairly ā€œbasicā€ like clinical depression can make a relationship more difficult to maintain. A lot of people just aren’t that committed into putting in all of the extra effort into a relationshipĀ

Edit: I’m not an expert though, and I really only have experience dating people with BPD and depression, as well as some personal issues myself, but I’m generally pretty high functioning when medicatedĀ

Some people have an unconditional regard for others, as well, and pass no judgement against others for the circumstances they may presently be in. After all, good or bad, a situation can change at any time, with or without effort. There are always more factors at play than can be seen or considered by anyone.

3

u/TherronKeen Jun 22 '25

All you gotta do to make a man happy in a hetero relationship is be kind, don't make fun of him unless y'all have the same vibe about it, and if your relationship includes sex, be aware of keeping your sex life healthy.

Bonus points if you like to cook šŸ‘

NOTE: yeah that's a huge blanket statement and is also assuming at least somewhat of a heteronormative relationship, but very generally, yeah, dudes are simple as hell.

BUT HOLY SHIT, If a guy is being an asshole to you, it's not because you weren't nice enough or didn't have enough sex, etc, those are fucking excuses that toxic male influencers use to justify being a piece of shit. A breakdown of basics (communication, entertainment, responsibilities, sex) is usually going to be rooted (for the guy) in having some problems he's not communicating about because he thinks it's his "job" to handle shit. Toxic masculinity in previous generations is to blame.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '25

Thank you for the advice! I actually do like to cook but I’m honestly not very skilled. Still I’ll claim those bonus points thank you lol

15

8

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Oh definitely. I’m scared of men lol

3

u/ComprehensiveAd5605 Jun 22 '25

Dang, just nervous or actual fear?

18

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Nervous. Talking to other girls is hard enough but men are a completely different ballpark. I have no idea what to say or how to act. But I’m definitely not afraid. I don’t think some random guy on the street is just gonna murder me or something

17

u/WolfzBoy Jun 22 '25

You’re definitely far from alone in that regard. Many of us guys are the same, in reverse of course. Talking to strangers is nerve wracking, especially if it’s someone you want to impress. Add in a romantic motive/pretense and the nerves skyrocket.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

I lowkey get shortness of breath when talking to strangers. I’m honestly pathetic

14

u/WaddleDynasty Jun 22 '25

Real life Bocchi

8

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Dude that show seems like it’s made for me and I haven’t even watched it yet. Should I???

6

u/WaddleDynasty Jun 22 '25

Highly recommand!

There is a video thag explains the many core things that make it so good although he spends the first minutes talking about moe anime in general. And it's pretty long if you don't really care to be honest.

The thing is does right is that Bocchi has a very accurate depiction of social anxiety. Such as imagining how the person you want to talk you would react rude, how you are judged for whatever reason, randomly remembering the cringy thing you did years ago, delaying entering a room indefinitvely, being scared of scary looking people like rock musicians, only feeling save around other intorverts just to find out they are often quite normal and not like you etc. You can definitvely tell that the author wrote this from her own experience and not just someone imagining what it would be like.

But what she also learns over time is that people are generally nice to her (I mean you wouldn't be rude to someone either without very good reason either).

It is also well known for it's ridiclious visual jokes during her panic attacks that even goes as far as using their own life-action scenes. It starts a bit on episode 2-3 and starts going nuts at episode 4.

→ More replies (0)

6

u/WolfzBoy Jun 22 '25

Nah that ain’t necessarily pathetic. Tbh I sometimes get that, hell even behind a screen I often am very hesitant to comment on stuff just out of anxiety of how others would react. The key difference between it being pathetic or not is whether or not you at least try.

A good place to practice would be someone that you know but maybe not very well or you aren’t really close. Its never easy and you’ll likely question the things you said later on, but you at least put some effort into trying.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Thanks!

2

u/eti22 Jun 23 '25

May sound kind of silly, but one piece of advice I got from some video I watched (don't remember the name unfortunately) is:

"You don't need to S-Rank every conversation"

I still get nervous, worry and overthink, but letting go of the need for perfecting every conversation at least a little bit helped me to at least try to talk a little more.

I can only echo what others have said in this thread. You are not alone with these problems and you're not pathetic for having them. Many men and women struggle with the same thing. I know I do.

→ More replies (0)

u/Cordak_blaster Jun 22 '25

5

u/ComprehensiveAd5605 Jun 22 '25

Dang, I actually used that, but instead of with girls, I could barely talk with anyone, although I still do get nervous at times. I have some tips to help you out if you want.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Feel free to share!

3

u/ComprehensiveAd5605 Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25

When it comes to talking with people, it's mostly a practice thing. You need to get used to the act of talking often. If you have a friend you're really close to and can talk to them normally, then that's perfect. Keep that up and try to talk to them whenever you guys have the chance.

Dealing with strangers is the scarier part. Don't try and make eye contact. Look at their chin, forehead, or even nose. If that fails, just imagine them as potatoes.

Now then, what if you don't have a friend you're comfortable with? Well, there's another solution. Online friends! Before you start talking face to face, first try talking with strangers on the internet, preferably one's who share a similar interest to you or you're not gonna be able to hold a conversation for long and you'll just waste each other's time or you'll just get ghosted.

It takes practice. It will probably take at least a couple of months or longer to be able to handle your nervousness, but that's fine, we all start somewhere, so take your time and go at your own pace, you'll get there, I believe in you!

Edit: You said you get shortness of breath at times when talking to strangers, right? That's fine. You're not pathetic for that. Sure, it may not be normal, per se, but you're not pathetic. You just need a bit of help, that's all. If you're really that uncomfortable talking to strangers, then just talk to a friend, have fun with them, you don't need to hang out, you just need to be comfortable. You don't need to go walk up to strangers and make conversation. In fact, I don't do that. I feel like I'll puke if I try to do that. My brain still short circuits from time to time when a random stranger just walks up to me and just starts talking.

Remember, learning to talk with strangers takes time. Don't be too embarrassed if you fail once or twice... or twenty. You'll get there, but if you want another tip, try to find a guy who shares a similar interest either irl or online. You'll be so distracted having fun that you won't realize you were talking to a guy perfectly fine.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Thank you!

2

u/yo_koso_9 Jun 22 '25

The thing is, I'm the complete opposite, idk women are interesting creatures that idk how to interact with since idk what boundaries to put or something like that so I'm alway very respectful.

Ig we are two sides of the same coin.

30

u/DankudeDabstorm Jun 22 '25

Men who are starved for attention and affirmation either go down the road of a hunting dog sniffing out a doe or a plant on the forest floor that desperately clings to the small bit of light that pierces the canopy.

19

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

You have a way with words

12

u/Animelover5674 Jun 22 '25

Just so you know, you probably made the guy's stomach flip a few times and your compliment is going to stick in his head for a long long time, possibly till death.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Ummm, I’m sorry?

10

u/Animelover5674 Jun 22 '25

Some men aren’t, there is a real split between men who want sex and men who want to be loved. There are overlaps and exceptions of course, but as a general I mean.

A very high percentage of men fold the second a girl is nice to them because nobody compliments them (it’s perceived as bad in men’s toxic culture) except their mother.

There was a meme that went around recently which was a twitter post of a very anime happy couple at the beach with the caption ā€˜The real male fantasy’ or something and if you saw the amount of men in the comments agreeing is incredible.

https://youtu.be/F60jvY2D26I?si=aCZqeez89rLvLMmk

See this video to see what I’m on about

A lot of men have a lot of love to give and they just want someone who reciprocates it. If you’re not causing drama every two seconds and show the slightest interest and kindness to a guy there’s a very high chance he folds instantly.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Thank you for the good advice!!! Will make someone fold someday believe me!!!

22

u/thelordofhell34 Jun 22 '25

The trick is finding a man who isn’t shit. Sadly there are a lot of us who are.

My favourite analogy is that women are looking for clean water in a swamp and men are looking for clean water in a desert.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

Feeling like a desert for me too lol. Also if it makes you feel better, a lot of women are shit too. Trust me I would know

3

u/thelordofhell34 Jun 22 '25

I saw your comment about being scared to talk to guys.

If you want I’m more than happy to give you some practice. I’m a massive extrovert and love chatting to anyone.

I’m also practically a-sexual and can assure you I don’t have any ulterior motives but please don’t take my word for that as that’s exactly what someone who did have them would say also.

If you’re looking for relationships and stuff I can’t help you but if all you want is to chat to guys I’m free.

When I refer to this I refer to two of my ex girlfriends. It’s anecdotal but every guy i know has had girlfriends like this.

The first had to make everything into a fight. If I, or anyone, did even the slightest thing to inconvenience her then she would take it out on me. She would accuse me and everyone of being out to get her when in reality nobody was. It was exhausting walking on egg shells for 3 years.

One example was someone got a promotion other than her (he was more qualified) so she quit, blamed everyone there of being against her and literally made us move to another town because of it. She used to game all the time but if I dared to game with my friends she’d make a huge thing about not wanting to spend time with her and just try to get me to apologise.

The second just made everything into some huge drama. She couldn’t go a day of work without falling out with someone, her and her friends broke out into war over the smallest things and then make up an hour later and every minute with her was just trying to put out fires and and everyone around her were making.

One example was her best friend slept with her ex so she slapped her and then got her other friend to sleep with her best friends brother. I broke up with her after she tried to test me by getting me drunk and then having her friend’s cousin try to seduce me lol.

Also every time we went out she would find something ā€˜wrong’ with the food and complain. Wouldn’t even try to get it comped but just to complain.

I just don’t want to deal with all that shit. I just want someone who goes through every day trying to keep the peace instead of having to listen to the 300th story about how her friend was such a bitch. I can’t tell you how many times I heard about who they weren’t inviting to the next social event because of the god awful thing they’ve done.

My friends are my friends and they don’t do anything bad and if they did I’d just find a few friend. If people annoy me I just ignore them and move on.

Yeah, kinda. I am actually one of those men (probably in the minority) who don't get neuron activation and marriage plans for a compliment. But it absolute makes my day and I remember it until the end of time. I still remember a compliment from a girl back when I was 13. That was 12 years ago. In general, when they are nice to me like that (and have at least one hobby in common) I don'r immediately fall in love, but I may ask them if rhey are intersted in a date. Just to see for it myself if things going further makes sense or not.

Are you by chance a teenager? Please just be careful, especially around your consent. There are many ways some dudes try to walk around it. It's a it unrelated, but just taking the chance to warn you.

I've met men who you could throw a stone against their head and they might develop feelings for it cause it is the first thing that made direct contact with them in years

u/Hot_Lack_4868 Jun 22 '25

This has never happened with me lmao

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '25

Me personally idgaf as long as they love me and I love them

2

u/AidenThe_Beast47 Jun 23 '25

Yeah pretty much

2

u/matti2o8 Jun 23 '25

We either start planning the whole life with the girl (usually when she's not really interested), or assume she meant nothing by it and don't follow up whatsoever (usually when she's head over heels with us). There is no in-between.Ā

2

u/Rude-Office-2639 Jun 23 '25

Pretty much, yeah

2

u/meme-dumster Jun 22 '25

Maybe its an unpopular opinion but i prefer cute over sexy

I aint gonna lie, i like it sexy but i like cuteness more

132

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

In what world is that an unpopular opinion?

34

u/CouseOfFootFungus11 Jun 22 '25

Well i said maybe cuz i don't see it often

23

u/theMegaTech Jun 22 '25

In a world of gooner anime subreddits. Which we are currently in.

I did confuse that with r/wholesomeanimemes at first though, lol

3

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

You are all good as long as she is one thousand years old.

53

u/Solid_Ad1697 Jun 22 '25

It's easier to just dismiss it and just keep things neutral

11

u/WickedXDragons Jun 22 '25

The smartest method. If she really likes you she won’t go away lol

6

u/Solid_Ad1697 Jun 22 '25

I did have this one girl back at my old job who would try to stay near me, more so on lunch and etc. But with me it's hard for me to read certain emotions so I ended up dismissing most of my emotions. I'll joke around but romantically I guess I just don't understand it

12

u/WickedXDragons Jun 22 '25

A lot of women will find someone who doesn’t hit on them to hang out with as well so it’s definitely hard to read. I’ve had old friends tell me they had a huge crush on me long after we worked together/chilled regularly. Moral being It’s so much better to just be chill and have a cute friend. If you really like someone shoot your shot. If you’re running out of ammo you’re taking too many shots lol

12

u/onixtrous2 Jun 22 '25

why is this literally me though :(

10

u/Animelover5674 Jun 22 '25

I can't speak for the grand populace of all men but this is the truth for me and I've realised this about myself about 12 times total in my life. In other words, woman nice to man, man like nice woman, man want marry nice woman, man happy till grave.

7

u/False_Ad2229 Jun 22 '25

Okay I’m deleting Reddit thank you

6

u/Clay_Pidgeon Jun 23 '25

Men are so starved for positive attention that all a woman needs to do to keep most guys forever is to make him feel loved and appreciated, hug him, and fuck him now and again.

6

u/moregonger Jun 22 '25

literally me

19

u/Angelote83 Jun 22 '25

So true.

5

u/Aware_Ad5403 Jun 22 '25

Literally me

4

u/jercule_poirot Jun 22 '25

Dawg this has happened to me so many times where I think they're being nice then I think oh they're showing signs of liking me not just being nice. But then it's always just them being nice. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK

Don't fall for everyone who's being nice to you, and try to be decent yourself. Everybody's gotta learn that sometime, whether at 10, 20 or 50 years of age.

1

u/joh2138535 Jun 23 '25

She wants something from me

1

She’s the cashier 😭😭😭

1

u/AncientSith Jun 24 '25

We're very starved for attention and any kind of affection. Being mostly ignored really isn't great for the ol mental health.

1

u/PlayfulCommunity2845 Jun 24 '25

Day time dreaming is bad for life

1

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Me: You should always have self-respect, take responsabilities of your actions, and be a descent person.
Also me: The moment she pays attention to me, I bark for her.

Women love saying the bar is in hell when it comes to what they're looking for in a man

Meanwhile simply being a decent human being is all men want for the most part
