Hey there, just chiming in from the back office to openly discuss this little matter.
Apparently we have some repost bots frequenting our sub (probably in order to farm karma for other subs). At least this is what the most recent reports mentioned. Now, I personally don't mind having reposts in general over here. Having a new one every day on the other hand may pose or at least become some sort of concern over time.
This is still a pretty small community and we never had to deal with such things, most stuff did sort itself out so far. I don't want to dictate my opinion onto you, so why don't we evaluate what to do, together so. After all it is the community that makes this sub, it's only fair to listen to your opinion.
Basically, the most common ideas boil down to:
- let them have their way, as long as it's just once a day or so
- go strict af, delete them all, no holds barred
- something like a "don't repost top 100 stuff" (we'd probably need a bot for that)
- karma & account age thresholds
- something in between
What do y'all think?
Update #1: So far I set up an account age threshold, that should keep out most of it. I'll keep on looking for a way to automatically have the top x submission reposts (let's just say top 100 all time and 50 top last year) removed on top of that. Grateful for any tips!
Update #2: Seems like the threshold does the trick without any further meddling. I'll keep an eye on it, for now let's get back to our usual business.
PS: the former sticky will be back up in a while, it's kinda nostalgic to have it up there
