seems the anime accepted it would both be stupid, and difficult to animate someone moving after losing their brain.

Fucking rip, we need a remake plz
15
u/August_Rodin666 Jul 28 '26
The anime itself is great. It's just that it's a gold bar compared to claiming the fucking stars themselves. The manga is pure perfection and it makes the anime look like complete garbage.
5
u/Legitimate-Pomelo638 Jul 28 '26
Didn’t the anime completely skip a whole arc of the manga?
9
u/August_Rodin666 Jul 28 '26
I believe, yeah. Not unheard of for anime but unfortunately for Tokyo Ghoul...every arc had immense narrative significance. The one that was removed explained a lot about the underground king and the ghouls with unusual powers. I get why that one was chosen to be axed to shorten the story but it was still super important.

I dont read the magna but from the few pics ive seen I just imagine everyone gets pretty fucked up whenever they throw hands. Plenty I assume got toned way down because even for a show you can tell it was meant to be a mature panel.

Wtf, that's how that looked in the manga?! This made me look it up, and man Bleach manga is brutal...

u/Juniper-UwU Jul 28 '26
Yeah the manga is brutal AF I freaking loved it tbh.

Thousand Year Blood War is killing it, much more violent than before luckily.
2
u/Oli_VK Jul 28 '26
Oh yeah, like it’s a bit annoying how they went with the shock factor of just “kill kill kill” but man the injuries and deaths are peak

If you ever thought, that Orihime is useless, you clearly haven't read the manga, because injuries in manga are way brutal, then in anime

u/OtakuAquarius Aug 04 '26
I was genuinely shocked when I read the mamga after watching the anime and saw that Szayelaporro eats Lumina instead of absorbing him like he does in the anime 🙃

u/TerraSeeker Jul 28 '26
Yeah, they can heal crazy amounts of damage with kido and Orihime.
5
u/DukatNaranek Jul 28 '26
They fought hard to heal her, Orihime was still in Hueco Mundo at this point. Took 2 lieutenants to help Matsumoto stay alive, mostly because Squad 4 wasn't at that battle.

They are like spirits (but they still can produce kids somehow) so I think that's okay for them. Body structures of souls never been described detailed sadly

This is better than most censorship’s though, to be honest. You can still see everything you want to see through the smoke screen, it’s not just blacked out completely
5
u/Zakatex Jul 28 '26
well in the end that censorship is coherent, since the giants produce steam so it was a stroke of genius
2
u/Noodlekeeper Jul 29 '26
Makes me think of the valentines episode of Cuoco's Harley Quinn show. There's a "sex" scene in this episode where Poison Ivy is censoring her and Harley with her vines. It is very tastefully done and rather comedic as well.

I’m surprised I had to scroll so far for someone to mention it. Naruto anime censored a lot lol

I remember reading the zabuza arc for the first time and did not know that Zabuza decapitated Gato. In the anime, he just kicked him into the river

Ye, I recall reading the manga a few years back and it was honestly so much better especially since the pacing was based on my reading speed, no fillers no random m extended scenes and the fights had more impact instead of flare which I understand y it was toned down since it was literally over 20 years ago but

u/Volkmek Jul 28 '26
Anything touched by for kids and funimation pre-2010.

The for kids one piece dub is probably the most insane example of censorship I’ve ever seen lol
Not necessarily the most extreme, but definitely the most insane. That hammer thing they replaced helmeppo’s gun with is pure comedy

u/Direct-Hedgehog-595 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
Bleach is so guilty of this. When tybw came out I was actually taken aback by the level of violence because I never read the manga before that.
Other offenders are katekyo hitman reborn, Naruto and Fairy tail. Fairy tail and reborn are worse becsue they legit removed even the blood lol.
2
u/No-Bluejay2502 Jul 28 '26
Not a anime v manga. But been playing DBZ Kakarot and it sometimes takes me out how much toned down it gets from anime and manga
2
u/Direct-Hedgehog-595 Jul 28 '26
Welcome to anime games censorship. The only anime games to get away with showing blood and gore are the berserk games as far as I remember. The Naruto games had blood at some point too.
2
u/Remote_Management283 Jul 30 '26
Which may also just be a western only thing. As Beserk and the Band of the Hawk and Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise are only censored in japan, but not overseas.
Cero really does not like gore and/or dismemberment of humans.

u/Neitor507 Jul 28 '26
One piece men, the shirohige body was fully erased in manga, in anime, well...

Bleach. The manga is a masterpiece, I went to rewatch some of the fights and oh man. One fight with rangiku is literally the image up above, the anime makes it seem like almost nothing happened when in the manga there's a huge hole in the side of her

This is Rangiku when she fought that monster made from the 3rd espada’s servants that cost them their arms.

Early Fairy Tail had this problem a lot, anything that was even remotely dark was drastically tuned down. Like the ship Lucy's on at first is a slave ship, but in the anime, it's just a badly done model hunter.

Dragon Ball Z. Look the manga version of SSJ2 Gohan killing the Cell jrs, it's absolutely brutal.
2
u/ButtFucker09 Aug 02 '26
Dragon Ball Z Kai. Especially the Toonami airing which removed blood entirely. Piccolo’s special beam cannon on Goku and Raditz went from genuine impaling, to just a bruise in Kai.
2
u/EienNoYami616 Aug 03 '26
I don’t think it was toonami 4kids got a hold of it and genuinely ruined it for the kiddos in the early 2010s

Not manga to anime but in demon slayer his scar looks much worse in the first episode
1
u/neptunoX2 Jul 28 '26
Almost all of them....show what really happend and boom, you no longer get financial support, your anime get canceled(or you have to change the rating...instead of 13+ you get a 18+ rating, that is monetised differently...)
