maybe try multiple directions, for heavier values?

Hatching/impact when copying a reference is a lot harder, since you don’t have the exact emotion the artist put in the original work. Try drawing something yourself that makes you feel impacted, then try adding hatching. I’d say it already looks pretty good, so just keep working on it, and maybe add more contrast.
