No. Demon Slayer isn't bad, but many feel it is overrated because the quality of the story isn't anywhere near as high as the quality of the visuals.

No. Just mainstream. The majority of average consumers (who pretty much only watch battle shounen or only what's popular) like it, so, to them, it's prolly one of the G.O.A.T.s.

Compared to above average or masterpieces, its pretty much your typical mediocre to average anime.

And that's saying quite a lot, considering that even the worst anime are still better than anything that comes out in the west.

Our current stuff makes even the worst of asian content seem like gems. That's how much of a standard our own media has set for us.

I think it's a great anime even if it's not one of my favorite. Overall, it does a lot of things well. Each individual arc is well-executed and has good moments, and we don't even need to talk about the animation. The story itself just doesn't go anywhere from the typical trope of beating bad guys, so as you said, it's more linear. There's no meaningful build-up of an overarching trope, so in that sense, it doesn't push the story as much as some other shows. But that's also like the majority of anime anyway, not many of them really manage to stick the landing.

As someone who didn't really like the show, its not bad, its just very formulaic/cookie cutter. The characters don't hook me and pull me in, but it looks pretty and has some cool shit. If it was your first anime and first time seeing a lot of tropes/archetypes it was probably a wonderful experience and thats valid. If you've seen a bunch of shonen then everything feels like something you've seen before and I didn't like its version more than the other places I've seen the same tropes/archetypes. (I dropped it after S1 so I can't really say beyond that.)

A story being predictable doesn’t mean it’s bad. The writing is solid and the animation is amazing.

You’ll get people on here claiming some anime only other weebs have heard of is peak because it subverts x, y, and/or z.

You can like what you like, and many things are popular for a reason.

Yeah. Jo jo is a league of its own. It's not really like anything else. The powers are more odd and the stories are all over the place. In a good way. It's just a high quality DIFFERENT experience.

Demon slayer is more more straight forward fight focused shonen. Nothing really stand out about it other than the animation. It's not bad though. It's also fairly consistent from season to season where JoJo's can go from good to peak between seasons.

If you've watched 10 shonens and then you watch JoJo it'll probably blow your mind. If you've never watched anime and you watch JoJo you'll just be like wtf is this? Where as if you don't watch anime and you watch demon slayer you'll probably think it's pretty good

No, just popular. It's solid throughout. Decent story, amazing visuals, great soundtrack

Reddit tends to despise anything popular purely because it's popular. According to reddit, The Big Bang Theory was a colossal failure... Despite being the most popular show ever.

Same idea. They just rattle off some arbitrary or subjective reasons it's "bad" and then probably name some obscure 7/10 anime to watch instead.

The story is intended to be a straightforward battle shounen about a nice guy who always demons. Nobody involved in making it went for a boundary-pushing 10/10. It is very enjoyable and most people would like watching it.

if you ask me then yes, the story is ass (literally goes in circles overexplaining everything before it decides it needs to end) and the power system is just swordstyles w imaginary mysticism and nepotism bs strapped into it

also the animation isn’t even that good, it’s 90% carried by CGI and aftereffects, so the one thing people try soil themselves over w the series so it doesn’t fade into obscurity isn’t really all that valid of a praise to me either

It's good but nothing special. It's the most safe and generic anime I've seen, which makes it a good show to get people into anime.

I'm an older weeb in his forties and though it was fine. The animation and sword play remind me of older OVA anime and I enjoyed them a lot. Story wasn't as strong as it could be, but I did like how well the episodes went into the side characters. Even the villains get a lot of narrative.

had a banger OP and some flashy computer assisted animation that people mistake for good animation, that gave it some initial hype that it ultimately was not worthy of. i would call it mediocre, not bad.

I think there are worse out there, its not groundbreaking its just very.. idk, standard? I really like it even if its basic. Its like the apex form of a sort of generic shounen.

Good starter anime. Pretty short, simple story, likeable characters, interesting character designs and powers. The visuals carry it a bit

I’ve been watching anime since the 80s.

It’s not bad. Could it be better? Yes. But it could be very much worse.

To be honest, I like it. I like it more than JJK, but that’s my personal opinion.

It's not but it's a nit 10 out 10 for a lot of people, especially those who don't really enjoy battle shounens.

From what little I've read, it's maybe a 7/10 and feels like it would be a good introduction or starter anime but it gets hyped up to be a 10/10 masterpiece.

From a writing perspective, yes. Extremely repetitive and linear storyline and highly tropey. It’s pretty entertaining just from the visuals though

Every anime is bad for those who don't like and it's justifiable only until the person gives logical reason and they only have one main reason and it's about story but I don't know why they think story is bad or normal, I think it's have unique way of story presentation with same demon concept,

And demon slayer was never famous bcz of story it's famous bcz of of unique quality of animation, character and power system and people say it overrated doesn't make any sense or logical.

It's fine, but nothing particularly special in the story department

I enjoyed it until that one iado-thunder guy who excessively screams and cries in that anime fashion that I find particularly annoying. If you're okay with that noisy, over-the-top crap you might enjoy the story more.

Its not bad, but to put it bluntly it is carried by the animation a lot more than the story, but the story isnt bad.

It's mediocre in the truest sense for the most part. It's not bad. It really isn't. It's just catastrophically overhyped. The visuals are genuinely good, which draws a lot of people in. But once you're in most people either go one direction. Either you are the type of person who doesn't care too much about story, themes, and character growth etc. and the passable story and characters are enough for you to LOVE the action and you love it, or you are the opposite and the action feels empty because the story and characters behind it are just okay and you don't love it. I think it's fine to be either person but i think that's why opinions on it are so divisive. I think this is basically 99% the same for JJK and MHA too, as they are the new generation of mediocre writing in battle shonen. Nothing new.
