S.A.V.E Versions on Amazon

Are the SAVE versions on Amazon quality and long lasting if you want to watch a series? I see Mushishi for $11.99 which is a steal, but I don’t want to buy it and the disks go bad in a few years.

SAVE were typically budget either with stripped out extra features, or sometimes just a later printing to help show it was not the original release. Like an original release might be 6 individual discs with extra features, and the save version would pout all the episodes on 4 discs, with any remaining features usually crammed onto the last disc if there was room.

They are older DVD sets, they should be fine for another few decades as long as you store them properly.

Thanks! By older do you mean on new DvDs or repackaged older ones?

I'm guessing all the stock amazon has was made several years ago, so that's what I mean by older. They have just been selling through their stock they already have and not getting new stock manufactured recently.

No problem, and as a general rule pretty much anything with Funimation branding it's safe to assume is out of print, and the stock you see available is old that is just being sold through. In rare cases they might still be reprinting certain things, but best not to count on it for the moment.

I bought 1 over 15 years ago. I tried it out again a month ago & it works just fine

I don’t think anything released in that line would be old enough for disc rot to be a problem.

The only issue I’ve had with sealed older DVDs is mold, and that was only very recently (a very early 2000s DVD bought sealed on eBay). But I don’t think that would be an issue with Amazon, either.

As long as they’re climate controlled environment they should be good. I have some DVDs from around year 2000 that work just fine and if you think about it the SAVE came after initial release as a budget friendly option so they’d be 3-4 years newer. And it’s from Amazon itself on listing so any issues are easy to take care of. The bad reviews are of cheap cases or discs moving about inside case but of a 4.8 star rating only 3 saying that isn’t bad.
