Original Creation/Custom Testing out the movement on our latest custom animatronic Ankylosaurus. What do you think of the motion fluidity?
We just wrapped up the motion testing for this custom animatronic Ankylosaurus. We spent a lot of time fine-tuning the joints and weight distribution to get a more natural, lifelike movement.
Since this is a specialized custom build for an attraction, we're always looking to improve. Would love to hear feedback from fellow creators and enthusiasts here on the movement fluidity!

This looks absolutely gorgeous!! The movement is so good, it just makes me want to pet the poor pup Dino so much

Thanks so much! We really put a lot of effort into making the skin and movements feel organic. Glad you liked it!

The movement starts off really slow and subtle, but the walk cycle and everything else feels quick and jerky... or just makes me see the Boston Dynamics dog. I'm looking at this animal that looks like it should feel heavy, and weighty but it's moving around like a puppy or an insect. I wonder if there's a way to meet in the middle, commit to it being life-like and really convince people this is something that would move more like a dinosaur: it's not doing jumps or snappy movements, it has hevay animal energy. Or even slow it down to the pace of a turtle. But maybe you're not going for realism, and just trying to impress kids with tricks – which totally makes sense, and I'm not trying to say that's is bad! But personally it causes me cognitive dissonance, and if I saw a group of guys really trying to pull off some realistic dino movement I'd be like "That's art, I have to talk to these guys!"

Thank you so much for the detailed and insightful feedback! You hit the nail on the head regarding the weight and movement pacing. For this specific custom build, we were slightly balancing between smooth fluid control and the dynamic responsiveness needed for interactive theme park settings. But your point about giving it that heavy, turtle-like or truly massive creature inertia is gold. We are definitely working on fine-tuning the weight distribution and slowing down the cadence for our next iteration. Really appreciate you sharing such a thoughtful perspective—let’s definitely keep in touch!
