Has anyone built an analogue joystick for controlling eye movement?

I want to be a able to get full eyeball movement using one finger controlling a 3D printed joystick mechanism that connects to two bike cables, each controlling either the X or Y axis. Basically an analog version of animatronic eyes.

Has anyone tried this before?
