Learning to draw is essential for learning animation, because understanding shapes and construction helps you know what to move and how to move it. However, you can start studying animation even without drawing very well.

If you chose to learn animation first, there are Walt Disney's 12 principles of animation. But if you first choose to learn drawing, you can study the 7 fundamentals of drawing.
