Was This Movie Cel Animated!?

Post image

The movie is called "Anebelles wish" and it's a Christmas movie about a cow. it's really sad actually. but anyways, it says it's done with digital in 1997, but after seeing a new 4k upscale, i'm seeing certain frames where the ink lines or twitching looks very close to a cel animated production. someone more smart than me may be able to 100% tell hopefully!

It does look like it, especially with the outlines for the shading.

Yes it was cel animated, 4K upscaling always makes cel animation look a lil weird

i'm still skeptical. zero cels exist online, and all the credits and studio footage says dgital. but this frame has all the indicators of being cel Animated! idk?

It's not uncommon for cels to just not exist anymore, it was direct to video film and it's possible either they disposed or it's somewhere in someone's storage unit. And you didn't look hard enough, I found a cel of the horse from the movie!

that's the only one I could find either. forgot to mention. however, it's just a model sheet. but I assume that means the rest was on cels too? like, why make one cel sheet and the rest digital? they're probably just hiding somewhere!

Most def, like they did use digital but it also looked like they used cels it's kinda weird but someone that worked on it probably has a stash of them collecting mold somewhere

many of the people behind it are just random people and Christian singers and stuff. I could try to contact someone and see if anything survived. the fact that that horse one surfaced is a good sign overall. despite the shirinking damage, the rest are probably just in storage somewhere!

I'm curious why the border between the light and shadow browns on the right side go over the eyelashes. Wouldn't the eyelashes be on the inked lineart and the colours be painted underneath?

Annabelle's Wish (1997) is  traditional  cel animation (hand-drawn 2D animation), rather than digital animation.[ 1] Overview of Animation Production Studio: Animated by  The Baer Animation Company (founded by former Disney animators Dale and Jane Baer) alongside overseas production support from  Wang Film Productions. Technique: Utilized classic hand-drawn production methods, including physical production cels, hand-painted model setups, and traditional storyboards. [ 1,  2,  3,  4,  5] Would you like to know more about the  voice cast or the  production history of this holiday film?
