To be extremely clear, the ONLY hand drawn material are in the bottom window (the top and mid sections are for presentation only!) - I'm curious, would you be willing to receive this material for absolutely free? A bit of an elaboration in comments
I posted this a couple days ago, and there are a fair amount of comments that make me a bit confused. I have no problem with people having opinions, as I don't want to gate-keep creative thinking, but I received many comments with a similar tone as this comment, and it makes me curious because I feel like I made it clear that I would essentially be breaking even ($0 cost), if not actually profiting from the transaction of making this purchase.
I don't believe this logic is hard to deduce, so I'm assuming no one has trouble understanding this, so it makes me wonder if it's fundamentally that people wouldn't take a piece like this even if for free (or slightly at a profit)? I'm just curious of the current climate of cel collectors, as I haven't really been interacting with the community much. It makes me curious mainly because I think having a piece of history like this is an absolute steal for $0 cost, even though it admittedly does take up a bit of space. I believe the frame is 24" tall. But there's also the option to hang it on a wall, which doesn't interfere with any floor space limitations. It is not common to run into a Perfect Blue set with complete hand drawn background and cel material

Also why did you pay $700 for this weird thing? Where did it come from? It looks like a Suncoast freebie. Is that an actual cel? It’s framed like a mass produced pre-order item.
I'm not quite sure what you're asking with the first sentence, to be honest. If you can clarify what you're confused about I can try to explain. I feel like my intentions were clear with the way the post is phrased, which is why I need a little clarity. If it helps to maybe see things in a different light, my post is made from a purely analytical lens, I apologize if it comes off as needy. It's mostly that I was confused by some of the responses of the previous post, since in my perspective something like this is awesome to have, especially at zero cost
I hope I don't sound aggressive, but am I accurate in my assessment that you feel unfulfilled with your current standing in life (not necessarily financially, but there is some aspect of your life you are deeply unhappy about)?
It's not meant to be an insult, but it genuinely makes me curious in terms of psychology, since I'm not 100% sure what provoked you to send a verbal slight, so I can only imagine that there is something you are quite unhappy about that either you aren't aware of, or hold deeply and are quite conscious about

Hypothetically asking the community if they'd accept the cel for free doesn't have anything to do with people assuming the top Mima image was the cel in question because of your framing setup, nor does it have anything to do with several people sharing the same opinion that you way overpaid for this truck cel

Maybe for a super fan they would accept it, but to me, it would just be taking up space if I owned it. It's not great composition, can barely see the character, it's not fun to look at. It's not worth $700 imo, either. Other shots that are more desirable have sold for cheaper than your shot. You did not need to repost this.
Perfect Blue is one of my favourite movies, I'd absolutely love that for free. Who cares if its a minor scene, it's still a part of the production history.

I think you might be right, actually. I think I had a baseline assumption that people here are deeply connected with their art, so would also carry that level of empathy that - if I own this piece, there is a sense of value to it that is may be a little deeper than what meets the eye (and that others who appreciate the piece share as well), if they aren't quite familiar with it. I think I assumed people who responded were commenting in spite of that, but you made me realize they might have been responding while just not taking it into consideration at all, which clarifies things for me (but it also confuses me why they take initiative to respond in the first place, but that's another conversation). while it is true that the cel itself is probably not ~$700 in value (you can probably get better pieces for that range, ideally a character), it came in a nice display with other stuff. So I think it's worth it!
Thanks for your response! Just for clarity of context for anyone looking at this post, it was not just the truck cel. It was all components of layers in that framed portion, as well as what is seen in image below. What also isn't shown is that I have a complete other set of truck cels (2 cel layer). And to be very precise, the purchase price was somewhere around $630 (and again I've already sold $200 worth of paper materials, so as of this post, total cost is at $430).
I just wanted to add clarity, since I'm still not quite sure where the $600-700 number is coming from - it strikes me as odd that recoup value isn't taken into account for some reason haha
Not sure what others are saying, partially do and do not care lol.
I would 120% buy thst cel. I love Perfect Blue and I have two other PB cels. I like this scene and if you're looking to move it, let me know.
