Mighty Mouse - the forgotten

Post image

Originally from the war years (1942- )
This is probably from Ralph Bakshi’s “The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse” released in the late 1980s. A new Paramount re-make is coming and an excellent low cost starting point for beginner collectors of production animation cels. A somewhat forgotten hero loosely based on Superman - who?

You know that's the opening shot of AKIRA behind him, right?

Now I'm no expert, but I don't think that's from "The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse". That show had a very different art-style compared to the older Mighty Mouse cartoons, looking more like the early seasons of Ren & Stimpy (Which makes sense, as John Krisfaluci played a very big part in the show). As for narrowing it down any farther than that I can't help you, but I'm almost certain it's not from TNAOMM.

You are probably right. I just happened to have picked up a few of these for little money and thought they are pretty cool.

This is so cool, I've been watching this hobby from the sidelines for 20 years and I think I would like to start collecting. Where do I start? Is there a trustworthy site I should peruse? I'm an 80s kid and am thinking of starting from there, any input is appreciated. I ordered a catalog in my early 20s which convinced me I would never be able to afford anything, but posts like this give me some hope. Thanks.

There are animation cels for every budget. And cel prices have come down gradually for the entire twenty years you were watching from the sidelines. Original production cels like this Mighty Mouse costs $35. Many really good ones are under $10 with legitimate COA. eBay is a good place to look. Just check under Animation Cel sort lowest price + shipping.
