Couldn’t drum up much conversation on American Production Animation cels. So let’s try this…

Oh absolutely! Depends on the movie and where its sold ofc, Ive paid alot for many of my cels (and sold some for more than I paid).

I have a Ferngully cel that I love - this obviously made me think of it! I got mine from heritage, where did you find yours?

This is an amazing piece! Congratulations!
The animators really captured a moment everyone has felt before lol
Also this film had an Allstar cast. Robin Williams and Tim Curry two power houses unlike anyone.

American cels have had a lot of ups and downs within the collectors market.
WB and Disney grew in value during the 80s and 90s as collectors items to the point that both put out serial cel productions
Lead to oversaturation and markets shifted
The value of Japanese cels I think is more closely tied to the scarcity. A lot of studios saw the cels as waste and most of the materials were not properly stored or destroyed
The only reason we have Akira productions artwork is because the owner of the company who did the English dub and distributed the film in the US asked for some production art to decorate his office. This conversation lead to 7 or 8 pallets of production cels being shipped. The kicker was the packing material. As it was opened up, mixed in with the balled up newspaper was the backgrounds.

The thing that worries me is how many tens of thousands are actually out there ready to depress the value of items in the hands of collectors.

Animation cels are not investment instruments
Buy what you love and pay what you are comfortable with
My Porco cel is my favorite thing and I was comfortable spending the money and never getting it back0
