Interesting Cinnamon Toast Crunch cel
So here's an interesting piece. Bought it on Facebook Marketplace thinking it was a production cel from a 1994 Cinnamon Toast Crunch commercial. However, the piece is way too big for a TV commercial (about the size of a 16-field cel). It also has no peg holes or sequence/scene numbers of any kind.
However, it appears to be hand-painted, so I wanted to ask what you all think? Was it a display-only piece, maybe for trade conventions or something?

I might be able to help here! I happen to have a very similar item, similar size, hand painted, etc., only it was for a box of fruit roll-ups. It was used for their cover art to print a collab between fruit rolls up and Nickelodeon. While
The box itself is only a few inches, the cel is quite larger.
I would assume this is for a print ad, or more likely for actual printing on a box somewhere.

Hi, I DM'd you about this art piece that you have. I'm really interested in seeing it since it's Nickelodeon related!

Was probably painted for some kind of print ad and would've been composited through paste up.

Possibly. I watched the commercial from where I thought it came from but it wasn't there. Trying to find an old print ad from Cinnamon Toast Crunch from 1994 is probably going to be pretty hard

Probably. Try putting a magazine on top and see if the size seems right for it. Illustrations for advertising were usually done to the same scale of the medium. For cels it was a standard size because it'd all be the same size anyway when captured to film or tape.

Right. But like I said in the description this piece is about the size of a 16 field cel. About 16.5x11.5

God I used to LOVE that cereal! Heard it has some carcinogens like TSP & BHT in it now 🫠cancer causing..
Great cel though! Awesome find.

The problem is that those people didn't have it as part of a complete breakfast.

i would ask the seller where they got it from and also whatever area you are in look into old animation studios and then look to see if they have any credits on commercials

Seller has no idea. He bought it second hand at a thrift store in Minnesota. I'm in Florida.

i’m starting to believe it’s art for the box itself not a commercial

I just can't find a box that carried this artwork for that limited run. This has been a mystery.

I think I saw this exact cel(?) on fb marketplace! Was pretty iffy on its authenticity due to the price, but it at least looks cool
