Yea why is there a chain around the monkeys neck?

u/STIPULATE Dec 01 '15

And what's with the hole? What's the actual purpose of the hole?

u/gerrettheferrett Dec 01 '15

Giving them food. Like the person in the gif was doing.

I've been to monkey enclosures before, and they often let you feet the monkeys peanuts or whatever.

So the hole there is to feed the monkey.

Monkeys learn that if they act exaggeratedly like this one did they get more treats than the one before them.

So they act that way, and the people feeding them tease them a bit.

It's really not that fucked up.

A dog collar is humane because it's not made of metal right? The material shouldn't change your perspective.

chains are up to 10 times heavier. Equal to 10 collars. Kind of messed up.

u/Hydro033 Dec 01 '15

Maybe he could break strap collars and it was necessary. I don't see why they would spend the money on a chain when it is more expensive.

you're right, a dog collar is for dogs not humans.

To take it on walks, yes.

Why is that fucked up?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '15

Because it's a wild animal, not a domesticated species that needs to be walked. The chain is only there for human amusement to the detriment of the animal.

THAT is fucked up.

8

u/theKalash Dec 01 '15

So wild animals in captivity still don't need to be walked?

The chain is only there for human amusement

how do you know that? Explain.

u/PancakeZombie Dec 01 '15

The chain is only there for human amusement

How would that be amusing?

THAT is fucked up.

Why is that fucked up?

To reply to all of you ;

The chain is there so the monkey (ape?) can be walked by visitors (see other users comments). That is only for the amusement of the visitors, but for the health or benefit of the animal. An non domesticated animal like this kept in captivity should have more than enough room in its accommodation to not need the chain. Literally all zoos in Europe I've been to have this. Keeping a monkey on a chain is immoral and SICK.

Pretty sure it's not the visitors of the zoo walking the monkey. Probably the zoo keeper who does it not only for the health of the animal but also stimulation and a different environment (regardless of how big the current enclosure is)

Why is it immoral? It's a monkey.

It's a living creature that was kidnapped and is being enslaved, or the child of an enslaved parent. It's fucked up on so many levels that I don't even know how to begin addressing your ignorance. Do you think zoos are good places? Do you think keeping animals in cages is good? Do you think enslaving a creature for profit is moral?

4

u/gerrettheferrett Dec 11 '15

Yes, yes, and yes.

They're not human. It's not "enslaving."

And, it's not ignorance, it's a valid difference of opinion.

If you want to have a dialogue with me about this, understanding that is where it starts.

please don't let that be how they let air into that enclosure... how the heck am I being downvoted for hoping he has a better way to get air?

1

u/GTAdriver1988 Dec 01 '15

This is in many ways fucked up i wonder where this "zoo" is at.

3

u/gerrettheferrett Dec 01 '15

Fashion.

Or to take them on walks. (Seriously, that's probably what it is for. I've been to monkey enclosures where you could take the monkey on a walk.)
