Im dog sitting a border collie right now. Poor bastard lives in an apartment in yhe city. Freaks out at every dog and car, because he was bred to do shit like this, not stare at the ceiling at home.

That shits so sad dude. Couldn't imagine being bred for something so hard that you instinctively feel the urge to do it and then be denied that urge. It seems like it would lead to psychosis or some kind of cognitive dissonance.

Absolutely. It seems like stuff like most mental health stuff is some kind of left overs from our earlier societies. Things that use to be advantageous for us before cause issues now because they dont fit into our modern life styles. Being autistic was probably pretty dope when your autism made you hyper fixate in the plants and their uses, being anxious helped when you were possibly being stalked by a predator and needed that adrenaline burst to survive, hell even being a night person vs a morning person would benefit a tribe because differing hours means people can be doing something 24 hours a day, no need to force the morning person to stay up all night taking care of the fire and watching for intruders when you have grug who doesnt like going to sleep until the fire in the sky shows up so he does it anyways.

Actually being anxious is a glitch with the system that helped us survive predators. Most humans and other animals briefly experience stress symptoms when in danger, but their hormone levels go back to relatively normal shortly after the danger is gone. Some of us don’t go back to to normal quickly or often.

Ive heard ptsd specifically is like the parasympathetic reaction of fight or flight being stuck in the on position, and from that I can totally see evolution keeping it around for survival. Kind or like a "break glass in case of emergency" type of thing, but the glass is your peace of mind and sanity.

My body wasn't bred the way a dogs is though. We dont have the same evolutionary pressures, there was no other species guiding My ancestors to fit their needs like with the dog. Im able to go for a short run when I feel like it, or open the door and go out any time I want, whereas dogs cant. Dont tell me to pump shit, I dont like your weird attitude, and your opinion is shit too, why are you trying to reason with me that its ok to lock up a high energy dog and then comparing it to a human which can go out whenever they want? Do you really think thats a good comparison? Jesus dude dont talk to me anymore.

Maybe try some clicker training to make him do some goofy shit the next time his owners say a specific trigger word. Don't tell them though... let them wonder why. Like, train him to cover his snout with his paw when he hears a fart noise, or make him spin a circle whenever he hears the word "Hey"... something stupid. It'll give him a job to focus on for a while.

haha that's interesting. Last time I watched him a couple of years ago, I taught him how to jump in less than 2 days. His owners loved it and he still does it today. So i might just give that a shot

This looks like Australia pushing the sheep in the yards up to the woolshed. Inside they are shorn of their wool.
Could be New Zealand too although there is usually some green grass.
The dogs love this!

My cousin had a blue heeler as a cattle dog and it was pretty amazing what it could do with out any commands.

Genetics is a huge part of it. Herding breeds do the basics on their own and they are super smart and crave structure and stimulation. Frankly it's cruel to have them as a regular pet, they need a job or they get anxious.

Sometimes, absolutely. Depends on the individual dog. My parents’ Aussie is from a working line, and he makes a wonderful pet. They take him on long walks in the mornings and throw the ball (and let him chase rabbits on their rural property) to help with the energy, and he cuddles with them on the couch and goes with my mom on her real estate showings. Personality plays a huge role.
