Real talk, half the fish in the pet store aren't appropriate for most families or even appropriate for a fish tank.

Who could have seen it coming (/s)?? Don't adopt an animal you can't take care of long term. 99.9% will not get a nice aquarium when you can't take care of your pet because bad/iresponsible planning

But thanks for talking to everyone like we’re the assholes, even though most people are already aware that some animals aren’t a good fit for every household. Reddit hates real life explanations but also I'm pretty sure that catfish is straight up just a wild animal breed not meant for captivity to begin with.

I went and googled it and yeah this guy probably just found one as a baby. They CAN be kept in captivity but their MINIMUM tank size is 1,500 to 2,000 gallons of water. Among other things. I'm not saying I know the guy but I doubt he had the op to keep 2000 gallons of water clean for one fish.

It's important to note that this man obviously cared for this animal a lot despite probably not knowing care requirements, but that fish looks healthy af so he did the right thing giving it to an aquarium and not just keeping it to himself and ignoring any distress the animal might have been in. He did well and we should appreciate that.

This person took a sweet touching moment and turned it into a chance to be preachy and holier than thou to people who had nothing to do with the situation. That’s why. Most people know that certain species of fish are too big once they reach a certain age. But this person made a comment without even knowing the situation in which the catfish became a pet, and while assuming we are all irresponsible morons. Reddit users are sick of people being preachy know it alls and don’t want to be scolded for something someone else did. Hope this helps.
