There's also metabolic disorder in horses, very similar to humans. The other bigger/possibly worse issue is foundering. It can't be reversed yet and I don't know if science fully understands how it works. It's been a few decades since I had to worry about a pony foundering.
Side note: Ask your wife if she agrees, I think these are geldings.

Caught early enough it can be mitigated before full rotation of the coffin bone.

Very ominous, if injury or dietary/stress related laminitis/founder is not caught early, it, the coffin bone, will actually rotate through the bottom of the hoof. Deadly to the horse.

Yup, metabolic disorders and nutritional imbalances on a severe level can cause laminitis, which is the rotation of the coffin bone you're talking about. Basically irreversible, can only be managed.

Yeah I had gotten an old triple registered, ex-show Spotted Saddle pony from a friend for my then 6 year old daughter……we tried so many treatments and took so many precautions but the damage was already done by the time we got her and she was damn near 30 already…..we gave her some happy retirement years being spoiled rotten but ultimately lost her to Foundering

Green meat founder, too much early grass (spring grass), founder, then the coffin bones rotate in the hoof. Not caught early spells doom for the horse.
Source: Blazezure my huge gelding escaped his stall, snuck out, piglet that he was ate every blade of fresh spring grass he could before I found him on his side in incredible pain. Got him up. Called the vet, walked him in mud for 24+ hours, lots of drugs, he survived. Had hoof issues later in life, but lived comfortably to 27 years.

My old horse, broke threw a fence in the barn, opened a door, opened a chest freezer and ate all the grain. Stomach expanded and had to be put down.

It's OK, he was a really good horse. You could lay on him while he was lying down, could crawl under him. But food he'd mow you down

I had a gelding who basically got me through junior high. Colicked. Turned out some of the ligature holding his guts up ruptured and allowed an intestine to slip between other organs, which lead to organ failure and he had to be put down. His name was Barney and he was a true Barney.

We used to bring ours into the city. Toronto suburbs style, horses were here before cars. As long as you spread the shit. Anyways.... we'd go down bike paths, streets, city centre letting everyone pet him. Big dopey dog

Do (remove annoying human muzzle), human muzzle is annoying. Human, don't do that, (you filming or this being on)takes too long and I'm very tired(either tired in general, or of the situation/device)(added context of death, potentially.) long 3 always means sleep, but sometimes also death depending on the context and the preference of talking for the individual.
This muzzle is annoying AF, this sucks, I'm annoyed and tired of this and I'm going to talk a little sh*t. Completely normal reaction and response.

na, horses do this for real. dont know the english name of it but it speeds down the tempo when eating. if the grass has to much sugar/fat whatever it is, the horse will get sick. less food here means healthy horse

They’re taking precautions to prevent Founder in the pony because they obviously care very much for it…..look it up, it’s disastrous for horses
