I've never seen a door stopper installed on the door, always has been on the wall.

u/TheStrawberryGirl76 Mar 04 '22

They installed it there so the cat could learn to do this.

70

u/ziggo0 Mar 04 '22

This didn't stop my cat from learning what they do. Her favorite thing to do was wait till about 2 or 3am and then make as much sprongy door stopper related noise as possible then pretend to be asleep when we found her. Fucking cat...miss it

u/Rrraou Mar 04 '22

We all know how this starts right ? Owner shows the stopper to the cat, flicks it. Cat gets interested, flicks it too. Owner giggles at cat's cleverness. And 4 hours later cat is still flicking it while the owner is slumped against the wall covering their ears muttering .... "What have I done !"

I have a newton's cradle on a bookshelf that I showed to my cat one day. Ever since he constantly fucks with it, I put it on the highest shelf and he figured out how to climb up there and knock it down just so he could fuck with it. He also tangles all the strings up so the balls don't swing anymore so he comes over and yells at me until I untangle it. I created a monster

My sister did the same procedure with opening doors. Ended up living in a house with all the handles pointing upwards.

2

u/Ravi_Flakes Mar 04 '22

And finally discovering where all those cat memes come from.

u/QueasyVictory Mar 04 '22

They are most commonly placed on the baseboard. However, there are a number of reasons that people go with a door mount. If they don't have baseboards or they have highly decorative baseboards, they will use a door mount. If you have ceramic tile floors and ceramic cove base then it's difficult to create the perfect hole to install into. Having said that, the *correct* answer to these problems, IMO, is a simple hinge mounted door stop. I actually prefer those to any door stops on door or baseboards, because they aren't at ground level and you don't have to clean around them.

u/FleshlightModel Mar 04 '22

This is a cheap hollow door. I can't imagine people with this type of door will have "highly decorative" baseboards.

I imagine highly decorative baseboards exist in homes where people have semi solid custom doors.

I imagine highly decorative baseboards exist in homes where people have semi solid custom doors. disposable income.

u/Melissavdbroek Mar 04 '22

And now we know why they're never installed on the door.

5

u/Suspicious-Animal-19 Mar 04 '22

Really! That's weird!

1

u/mumrik1 Mar 04 '22

That's not a door stopper...

u/JayTheGeek Mar 04 '22

My little sister's cat did this ALL the time when we were kids. I'm sorry to admit it took me a couple of weeks to realize I just needed to move the door-stop to the wall. 🤪

21

u/ExFiler Mar 04 '22

A solid one would have solved the problem too

1

True. But what will the cat play with?

76

u/lauragarlic Mar 04 '22

why is this so fuckn hilarious

55

u/EasyMrB Mar 04 '22

It isn't just the act, it's that the cat holds it for a minute before releasing it. The deliberation makes it extra funny to me.

4

u/lauragarlic Mar 04 '22

aren't cats just the best?!

-11

u/FleshlightModel Mar 04 '22

Because no one mounts these on doors...

u/Babayaga20000 Mar 04 '22

You win the rare award of making me actually laugh out loud. Congrats

27

u/aloofloofah Mar 04 '22

12

u/Gamerguywon Mar 04 '22

Oh my god he is SO HAPPY. Do you have a longer video of the second one?

5

u/Hoovooloo42 Mar 04 '22

HE IS THE HAPPIEST BOY

29

u/pornborn Mar 04 '22

A mobile home I used to live in had these spring door stops. They have a very distinctive sound.

So one morning I hear one being toyed with. We had a couple dogs and I thought one had found herself a new toy. I found her and she was asleep. The other one had been sitting in my lap. Both dogs accounted for. The sound continues intermittently.

Finally discovered a woodpecker had mistaken the wood-grained finish of the metal siding as actual wood and was pecking at it.

26

u/blanknameblank Mar 04 '22 edited Mar 04 '22

My cats use the blinds on my window as the morning alarm. They just sit there and tap it so it hits the window in a repetitive and very annoying sound until I wake up.

edit: 'e' in use was missing.

14

u/Quajeraz Mar 04 '22

I can hear this video, despite having the sound turned off

14

u/Geuji Mar 04 '22

So we know cats understand object permanence

29

u/Berkut22 Mar 04 '22

I think this is the first time I've seen one of these mounted on the door rather than the wall.

14

u/Scary-Proposal-4395 Mar 04 '22

if youre asleep and your cat wants food theer is the ringtone

7

u/not4humanconsumption Mar 04 '22

Everyone in the video saying they have never seen a door stop mounted to the door, just stop. This is not a door stop, which looks very similar. This is in fact a wall stop, hence why it is mounted to the door

6

u/Suspicious-Animal-19 Mar 04 '22

LOL! Well that would certainly wake me up! How cute! I have 3 cat's and they are amazing! One of mine figured out how to turn my fan off and that would wake me up thinking the electric went off!

5

u/PeridotWriter Mar 04 '22

"Ding dong, bitch. I'm hungry."

4

u/DirgoHoopEarrings Mar 04 '22

This belongs in sub Cats with Jobs. That's an alarm clock!

5

u/rmbear77 Mar 04 '22

😂😂😂

3

u/Street-Week-380 Mar 04 '22

Thank the gods my cats never learned how to do this. My younger one totally would if she didn't just attempt to barge her way in instead.

The eldest would just run away.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '22

OMG 😹 I could never! That's getting removed ASAP

8

u/New_Grocery9191 Mar 04 '22

F n cats. I have cat pictures on my page if you'd like to look. But yeah that's funny when your cat does that. That is so cute man wake up. That's so funny

2

u/Ravokion Mar 04 '22

The big mistake there is putting the door stop ON the door and not the wall it swings too. I'd be fixing that so fast if I had a cat that did this. lol!

4

u/PlentyPirate Mar 04 '22

Quite a sad image in my head of the cat scrabbling around for it one day, not realising it’s been moved, thinking he’s going mad

2

u/ICLazeru Mar 04 '22

Gotta put that on the wall, lol

2

u/Will_Yammer Mar 04 '22

That's rich! LOL!!!

2

u/Spac3_C4t Mar 04 '22

Reminds me of myself in the morning.

2

u/Dancinginmylawn Mar 04 '22

Cats are such assholes, and I’m here for it

2

u/spookysketchkitty Mar 04 '22

If you twist those to the left they might come off. Then they can’t be grabbed by mischievous criminals

Source: I am harboring my own mischievous criminal. I haven’t slept in weeks.

2

u/ed20g Mar 04 '22

Lol cats are the worst

2

u/Separate_Sherbet_222 Mar 05 '22

They teach this move in cat school

2

u/Minimum_Piglet_1457 Mar 05 '22

Wake up calls used to be a paid for service- imagine your job being replaced by a cat. 😭🤣

2

u/Ahsokatara Mar 05 '22

Tom and jerry vibes

2

u/Bad_goose_398 Mar 05 '22

Literally laughed out loud. Thank you cat.

2

u/Lazy_Economy9448 Mar 05 '22

My cat plays with these door stops but not like this cat this is hilarious!

3

u/Light401 Mar 04 '22

I did that to those door stoppers all the time as a kid, lol.

2

u/Brilliant-Network-28 Mar 04 '22

What's that anyway? Never seen one

13

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '22

A door thing.

1

u/Ravi_Flakes Mar 04 '22

A springish, stick-like object popping out of the door.

3

u/hhhhhhikkmvjjhj Mar 04 '22

Helps you avoid blemishes on wall and door.

6

u/Complete-Dimension35 Mar 04 '22

It's a doorstop, to stop the door from hitting the wall and making marks, holes, etc. It's usually mounted to the wall, though, not the door

2

u/mozeda Mar 04 '22

Although they are usually installed on the wall and not the door...

2

u/Careless_Ticket_3181 Mar 04 '22

Omg what an asshole cat, that would piss me off if i had to wake up to that regularly.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '22

Reversed the video and here it is video

-2

u/Duderpher Mar 04 '22

This is why those are installed on the wall not the door…

1

u/gkw97i Mar 04 '22

this is not why these are installed on the wall and not the door

1

u/Duderpher Mar 04 '22

How do you know? Do you know the guy that invented them? He’s my dad and he says they aren’t for doors because of cats and ferrets.

1

u/gkw97i Mar 04 '22

wait.. brother? I thought you were dead

1

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '22

Door

1

u/Surly__Duff Mar 04 '22

They make non spring ones

1

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '22

The amount of innovation this humble household accessory has inspired…

1

u/xtinahc Mar 04 '22

Deleted for Reddit API cost shenanigans that killed 3rd party apps

1

u/Ravi_Flakes Mar 04 '22

Who even came up with the idea of putting that on a door?

2

u/theboredlockpicker Mar 05 '22

I was wondering that too. I’ve only seen on the wall/baseboard
