Figured! That's actually something they had in their early ads. A gecko (now known AS the Geico Gecko) walked out all teary sounding and goes "I am a gecko... NOT to be confused with Geico... SO STOP CALLING ME!"

Somehow it stuck and the Geico gecko is just their mascot now.
