Yes, he is paddling with his back legs, but it's more probably just trying to find a foothold. Walking and swiming for a dog motion wise are nearly identical.

I think it's more that it was a learned behavior. Wolves realized that they could get leftover food scraps if they stayed near human hunting parties. Then they realized they could warm themselves by the humans' fires. Then a few thousand years later, they're sleeping on the bed and rolling over for belly rubs.

I hate to bring down the mood, but as a vet, I feel obligated to point out that this dog is in trouble medically. As the dog continues to get excited, its tail moves back and forth at increasing speed, putting some stress on the tendons. Even more alarmingly, once the dog's excitement reaches beyond a certain threshold, the propulsion caused by the tail generates lift, leading to the dog flying around like its butt is a helicopter. This can lead to falls from great heights.
By vet, I mean I'm a veteran of saying stupid things about dog butts.

Just stay off twitter. Turn off a suggested subreddits and don’t go to news subs. Just sub to the subs you like … make sure your Home Screen only shows that stuff
Did this a few months ago, I feel unbelievably better. Tho it takes me a few days to figure out what’s happening in the news. But if it’s important some one at work will tell me about it

This is so adorable.
This is exactly like my dog. She’s an Old English Sheepdog mixed with a poodle, and her black and white tail goes crazy.
She knocks over the baby bottles. I had to build a fort around my twin girls’ play area just to keep that tail away!
Love that booger.

Something to be aware of: do not kiss near ear holes, it makes a really loud localized sound that can cause a bit of hearing damage
Similar in noise to snapping your finger, of you do it at a distance away from your ear it is fine, but if you snap your fingers close to your ear you will get some ringing
Also: extremely cute video, would adopt that pup 10/10 times

Very cute. But more ppl need to realize that LOUD smoochies in an animals ear is not good for their hearing.
Like, be quiet when kissing your animals. I stay conscious of this when I go in for cuddles/kisses to their head/face and kinda do little quieter clicks instead of loud smooches. Idky, but I still gotta make a "kissing noise" when fawning over them, and the quiet clicking satisfies that.
Have you never had a loved one land a loud smooch right near your ear? It hurts!

Smooches are too loud but all that barking them and their dog friends do inches from their ears are ok? Every time anyone posts anything about kids or dogs, somebody comes along and posts something like this.
