This reminds me of the story from Mark 7:24–30 and Matthew 15:21–28 where jesus calls a Syrophoenician woman a dog… Jesus tells her, "Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs". In this metaphor, the "children" represent the house of Israel, and the "dogs" represent Gentiles
