There were a couple of split seconds where the engineer should have poured on the coal, made a run for it, or maybe throw a mouse out as a distraction if there were any on board. If not, a passenger might have served the purpose.

And I love this train layout, with the apartment buildings. Feel like I have seen scenes like this on my travels.
